Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
Nice! Are you going to eat them right away or save them/keep to have on hand? Ha you got any more that need to go soon?
Well I offed one pansy male.
I think I have about eight or 10 more males to do.

I think I'm going to be lucky if I have enough pansy females to make a breeder group.

And I'll put one of the pansy males in with my last remaining 3 homegrown females.

Wow that’s gonna be a lot of meat!! That’s great! :D

Aww I hope you have enough females for a breeder group!! :fl

And that sounds like a good plan!! That should make some cool colors!! What color are your homegrowns?

If you search for button quail color chart, there's a couple of websites that have good pictures. A lot of the color mutations have gender specific colors or patterns, so you can tell gender once adult coloring comes in.
All the sites I could find had been taken down or had broken image links. Which website did you see?

Homegrowns.
Just these 3 left.
The males homegrowns just started to talk today.
I should have probably kept one but I figured I for sure have enough Pansy makes to go around.
Plus by putting a pansy male in with these three I will be mixing up genetics.

@DK newbie can most likely give you some better insight as to what gender they are.!

This hatch is going rough... we had 12 zip. 4 just quit after zipping. Another 4 hatched and died shortly after. Then there are 4 who have thrived and are happily in the brooder. We still have more eggs to hatch. :fl it was a staggered set so they can hatch until Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday.

:hugshomegrown hatching with early eggs can be frustrating as can staggered hatches......I had 7 hatch by Saturday night and then even though more pipped, they seem to have ā€œturned offā€. I’m hoping that the remaining pipped eggs hatch today as it’s now going into day 18 for last eggs set.:fl (and it’s been at least 24 hours since i noticed pips)
