Ok so here are some questions is the typical 14oz weight live weight and what’s the difference of weight in a processed carcass and will quail get to a pound or maybe a little more? Or is right under a pound about the biggest you can get?

Integration part 2. For those following the soap opera... Removed the male from the cage and released him in the wild. Apparently he is in love with the female as he didn't run/fly away but stayed next to the cage. Placed the 25-day old chicks in the cage. No issues. The male was mad but I left him for a while to get tired. Then placed him in the cage. He immediately jumped to mount two of the chicks, I had to explain to him that this is called pedophilia and after a while he got tired and stopped. Every now and then his hormones kick off, but the good side is that now I think I know which 2 chicks are male and which are female. They are too young to feather sex, plus one is Rosetta the other one Jumbo white, but by looking at which ones the adult male is trying to mate, I think this is good indication.

this is 6 butchered back in may.....depending on size and processing method, 2lbs of meat is typically 4-6 quail....since I mostly process extra males and have mostly colors, it’s 6 for me. many people that sell meat have gone to per bird charge vs per lb charge.

That was not the celadon egg, right? Will you be using any divider for the eggs at Lockdown, to separate yours from the others?

It was not one of the celedon eggs, thank goodness. It was also not one of the potential Lavender Manchurians, so I'm not too upset.

We dropped some on the kitchen floor after collection this morning. Not hatching eggs tho if they were just cracked you could try taping. My 1 lav man egg that developed and hatched was cracked and taped

I broke it. Not just a check. :-( One of the celadons may have a check, but I'm going to see if it develops anyway.

So I had these two nine week old males I was trying to hold off on butchering until my bigger batch is ready in another three weeks or so. Well, they started fighting and one got scalped today so ended up harvesting two scrawny little males. Stupid hormones are pretty ridiculous.

I separated them out so they wouldn’t stress out the girls but was never sure if having just the males together was a bigger mistake. What do you all do between maturity and harvest time?

Usually theres an aggressor and i figure out which one keeps going after the others and seperate him out into single cat carriers and such for a short period of time move up butchering date if theres too many.

I avoid it.
I'd rather a little less meat than mean fighters.

I thought I was doing so well, and with one fell swoop and one extremely overly generous quail breeder I've upped my population by 50% again.


Turned out not to have the super cool pansy types available, but got some dope birds anyways. Pearl/snowie/lavender/silver/blue types. And falb-fee hen with, like, white racing stripes.
