➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

@Texas Kiki @Nabiki @muddy75 @FortCluck @R2elk @007Sean & everyone else too!!!! I thought I heard one of my quailies crow the other night after I put them in their new pens (they're 3 weeks old). Tonight I 100% heard one crow, I ran to see who it was and everyone's just looking at me. One of them is standing tall in the dirt bath with its neck stretched up while the rest are in their normal hunched over stance.... can I assume it was that ONE? (The one looking at the camera)

males crow more at dawn and dusk....you can keep watching to verify this is your guy or start getting some practice with vent sexing! but yes they do stand straight up and extend their neck when crowing

I think you two could seriously be sisters LOL

And oh wow what a smartie!!
I grew up with 2 brothers so I'm very sarcastic.
It was day #7 for my Pansy batch, so I decided to do a thorough candling. Removed 2 clears & 2 cracked:barnie, one looked like it may have a blood ring so I'll hafta check it again before lockdown. So... I set 30, down to 26 now on that batch. I'll candle the 59 Sexlink & Feather-Sexable in a couple of days:fl. I'm really hoping for a good hatch out with both batches. The little buggers are just so darn cute!!!:love
Are you keeping these all as pets?

Is it too early to try vent sexing, he's just 3 weeks?
It’s never too early IMO to practice especially with verified males....you don’t want to try to express foam at 3 weeks but can definitely start looking for anatomical differences of the vent

No, that would never fly here. Breeding stock, dinner, and maybe sell, is what I figure. I'm sure somebody will be allowed to be a pet..... or two.....

So you're doing the same as I want to do. I'm keeping a male with females then their offspring is going to be dinner for the family. I may sell some, but I don't like dealing with people. They blame you when chicks die even though it's not your fault.

I have to start off with 25-50 hatching eggs though so I can get the colors I want.

As of last night and this morning, I have 4 button chicks out of 15 eggs. One looks to be Darth Vader, the other three may be normal. I'll confirm tonight when I move them to the brooder. Unless more hatch today, I have confirmed my male is a dud :he That's ok, I have a couple more normal males, and he'll taste great at Sunday dinner.:p
You have to post pics!

I need to find some time to revamp my button enclosures and make a few more. I have a pair of sisters, and their brother is with a hen I hatched from a shipped egg. She set on a clutch without me knowing and hatched 4 babies. Two made it to adulthood and look just like her. They are almost the same size so I need to move them before I can't tell them all apart.
