➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I would not consider your humidity too low...more likely too high.

Is ypur humidity gauge salt tested?

I hatch out at 45% with no issues.
No, it is not salt tested, it is digital. My first hatch ran too high on the humidity. 40-50% for incubation and 70-75% for lockdown. The air sacs were so small that a lot of the chicks didn't even use it and just went through the shell instead. Some of my chicks hatched a little sticky too.

I decided to go 40-45% with 60-65% at lockdown this time and the air cells look much larger.

Do your hatches take very long at 45%?

No I dont think they take long.

You don't want to know.

20ish.
25ish.
I do the same thing. No water for incubation and our humidity at 25% in the incubator and 60% outside the AC'd house. Then at lock down, put a jar of water (limit surface area) to nudge the humidity to 40%. Good hatch rates. Healthy chicks.

Kiki is my neighbor in Houston. We are only an hour apart. :D

wow, that's low.

The problem is if I go lower than 50% in lockdown or don't use similar sized humidity trays, it throws the temperature off.
I watch my calibrated thermometers.
I actually don't really have to adjust my temperature ever. Keeping my incubator in a climate controlled Room works perfectly.

I take that back, the only time I have to adjust my temperature is when I take the Turner out.

Add a sealed jar of water as a heat sink for temperature stabilization. What style/brand/model of incubator is this?

I'm using a Hovabator forced air styrofoam and Kiki has a Little Giant still air.

Good point. Where is your incubator? Close to a window? In a drafty location that has temperature swings? Sounds like you need to find a nice closet without a vent in it. Consider wrapping a towel around it too. Nothing air tight or it won't breathe. I saw where one person put the incubator in a box with an open top to shield the temperature swings.
