4 Week Old Silkie: Roo or Pullet?

Roo or Pullet?

Your baby (which is just so gorgeous) is a bearded silkie so it might keep you guessing for awhile as the bearded genes suppresses the wattle growth (or something like that). Some silkies can keep you guessing for months as they are slow to mature.

It's tail certainly looks more like my pullets than my cockerel's did. But that could've just been my birds.

I know it's all terribly unhelpful!

Thanks again! Yes I have a feeling this one will keep me guessing. I'll prob ask again in another month. :)

I'll cast the first stone, I think it's a boy. Please don't hurt me, if I turn out wrong.

Haha I probably won't ;). I am also a little worried about it being a cockerel because of how it's crest (not sure that's what is called on a silkie?) is coming in mostly towards the back. But maybe that'll change:fl this is my first silkie so I don't know how they feather out.

Okay I have another one who is too young to sex, but I'd love to hear you all's guesses. 5-6 weeks and already has a comb coming in :/

It's been a while since I've updated and I thought I'd let you all know that I'm almost 100% positive my silkie is a little girl! She's 3 months old now and still no comb. What do you guys think? Still too early, or definitely female?

(Also, turns out she's bearded, but I'm still positive on her being a girl!)

Well I'm no expert (as I originally made this post because I didn't know), but seeing as nobody has guess yet, I thought I'd give it a go if it's not too late. :)

Watching my silkie grow I've noticed that after 3 months she still has no comb. I don't know if your silkie is the same type as mine (ie. bearded), but if they already have a comb at just a few weeks old, I'd guess roo. But again, I'm still learning myself so I could be wrong!

I have a 5 week old silkie that appears to be losing feathers instead of growing them, any tips on why that would be happening? She was in a brooder with some other breeds but none picked on her (hopefully it’s a her, I’ve been saying that in hopes I don’t have a roo)
