Well, here is a funny for you! I can laugh now...an hour ago, I was nearing hysteria.
Went to the gym and decided to try the cardio room and give my shin splints a much needed rest. No trainers are available to show me the ropes so I tell the woman at the desk that I will just check it out myself...I cant break anything right?
I head for the BIGGEST machine and climb on. There, staring me in the face is what looks like the flight control panel for a small aircraft. Anxiety sets in but I plunge forward and put on my best 'I'm confused, doesnt someone want to take pity on me and help' face'. It works and a nice lady behind me says 'start moving your legs, it'll turn on'. Ok. I start moving. I think I am doing pretty well until I hear a sweet little voice say 'honey, I think you are climbing backwards, is that what you want to do' Gahhhhhhh!
I laugh and say 'No...just forgot to have that 2nd cup of coffe this morning'
I manage 5 minutes climbing the stairs to Hades and decide to try something a little more manageable.
I find a bicycle machine and sit down, feet in pedals and away I go. I feel so good that I just keep going and going and going.
20 minutes in, my hair is drenched with sweat and I am feeling the burn. Which at that moment, I thought was a good thing.
I decide its time to take a break and get a drink. I take my feet out of the stirrups and stand up. Whoa. Where did my thigh muscles go? I quickly sit back down and hope no one saw the quivering gelatinous mass that my legs have turned into. I wait 5 more minutes, pretending to be engrossed in whatever was playing on the TV. Try again. Still Jello. Now, I am anxious and wondering how I am ever going to get out of there. Another round of TV watching while casually flexing my legs and feet.
I stand again and actually take a step. I am now quite sure that my thigh muscles have taken themselves on a vacation. I quiver my way across the room, holding onto machines as I go. It was quite a sight really. I made it out of the room, found a chair and sat til I could regroup, then made it to the bench by the door, the bench outside the door, the bicycle rack near the parking light, the light pole at the crosswalk, the lightpole on the opposite side of the crosswalk and finally to my car. Normally a 2 minute journey...today...20 minutes.
I am just praying that it doesnt show up on YouTube.........................
