I listed some of my other birds in a previous post.
They have great personalities.

The friendliest chicken breeds I have include EEs, Australorps, Brahmas, Silkies, Project Crele Orpingtons(Working hard on improving), & mixed breeds.

Ooo! I also love Brahmas because of their fatness lol! And just while silkies are being mentioned, is it true that silkies need another silkie to be happy? I have my bantams and was thinking of adding a silkie, but I don’t want her to be sad or lonely.

I have Dorkings and Black Australorp off of your list. I would not classify Dorkings as snuggly type. I like them, and they are not unfriendly (we have males and females), but cuddly/pet-like they are not. The Black Australorp are more amenable to interaction, holding, touching, coming for treats. But, I have a middle-schooler that handles them a lot, so they are used to this from chick age. One of our BA, tends to become broody - she has been a good momma hen to a few batches of adopted chicks, and she is not friendly when broody!

I have silkies living with other breeds, so I don't believe that's true. As long as they have a buddy, you won't have a lonely bird.

Good to know! I definitely have read a ton of mixed things about dorking hens, but it’s good to hear it straight from the source! There’s been a ton of breed suggestions for me today, so I doubt I’ll have any problems swapping out a dorking for another breed in my future plan

Hi everybody! Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and happy holidays to all.

I currently have bantams because my boyfriend loves the minis, but my dream is having big, fat chickens lol!

These would be purely pets and I would like to hear anyone’s experiences with their temperaments. Ideally, I would want them to be snuggly, like jump in your lap snuggly. I know every bird is an individual, so I’d like to hear about your individuals These are the breeds I’m thinking:

Orpington
Australorp (Black)
Speckled Sussex
Dorking
Dominique

Hey everyone. I was just browsing online at some other possible breeds, because now I’m going chicken crazy lol. Anyone have any experiences with Buckeyes or Welsummers?

Good to know! I definitely have read a ton of mixed things about dorking hens, but it’s good to hear it straight from the source! There’s been a ton of breed suggestions for me today, so I doubt I’ll have any problems swapping out a dorking for another breed in my future plan

the chicks in my profile pic are Red Dorkings. They have shorter legs than is typical for most chickens and are one of the few breeds with 5 toes (but clean legs). Faverolles have 5 toes and feathered legs.

We have Black Jersey Giants too. They come in blue, black, splash and white colors. They are docile, and large. Not as fluffy as some breeds, but they are heavily feathered. A very fluffy (so they look really large) breed is a Cochin. Never had one, so not familiar with that personality, but meets the big/fluffy criteria.

Do you agree about the dorkings being less affectionate? Also how are the Jersey Giants? Docile like eat out of your hand or docile like follow you around and get in your lap? Sorry for all the questions lol
