Many people don't like blue jays?! But their beautiful and have the most exotic tropical like colors in the north. They are also so cute with their big eyes and their songs are amazing and let's not forget, they don't fly south for the winter and the barren lands and sunless sky's are brigtened by blue jays bright vibrant blue.
I guess most people don't notice that. Well, they are missing out.

I was referring mostly to the hunters.

I have a pair of Mississippi Kites nesting near by. When I mow my lawn they appear out of nowhere to catch all the big grasshoppers I scare up. When I see a grasshopper I’ll stop the mower and as soon as it flies the Kites will swoop down about five feet in from of me to catch it.
It helps to break up the monotony of mowing two acres every other weekend. :D

Yeah, Blue Jays are beautiful! But when I see jays, they are mostly Steller's Jays, still beautiful, but I wish I had a few more Blues.

That's awesome! I've never seen a Kite before but I love it when raptors dive really close to me!

I think its cause they are a bit like Magpies, noisy, among other things. I love them though!! And tbh, i love Magpies too, they are so pretty when they fly!!

Here's some of my best pics of birds: in order, young Mallard, Black-Crowned Night-Heron, American Robin, Snake, American Coot, Great Blue Heron, Brown-Headed Cowbird.
(Yea, i know, one's a snake, but i'm a sucker for snakes ;) :D.)

I am glad I found this thread. I love wild birds. My shelves are full of bird books. I have taken many pictures of birds. My sister is a professional photographer who does bird photography as a hobby. We often go birdwatching together. Her pictures are awesome.

I live on 36 acres of mixed woodland and meadow. We have many birds. I also have a feeder attached to my kitchen window. I have quite a variety that come right to the window, even if I am standing on the other side of the glass. Goldfinch, cardinal, house finch, purple finch, chipping sparrow, white throated sparrow, white breasted and red breasted nuthatches, black capped chickadees, evening grosbeak, rose breasted grosbeak, oh and a flying squirrel 😁 And those are just the ones that land in the feeder. Juncos feed below the feeder. Blue jays try to get in but are too big as are the grackles.

Last year a pair of American redstarts nested near one of the windows. My avatar is a picture of one of the fledglings. They are back this year but I have not found the nest yet. I know it is near the house because the female catches bugs on the porch. Here's a picture from last year.
