Hello.

I have a group of chicks that are going to be hard to sex. You can’t compare them to each other because they hatched between the 13th and 16th. Some of them are up to 3 full days older than the others and I have no idea which. Half of them I am also asking for help with the breed. I’ll put the known details with the pics.

These first 4 photos are Silkie/frizzled bantam Cochin crosses (I had a Surprise Rooster, lol) and I just need the sexes, if you’d like to take an educated guess:

The next five I’d like to know anybody’s thoughts on both breed and gender (I think four of them are the same breed?)They came from a bantam hatching egg assortment:

This is a bantam Turken from the same assortment, any guesses as to sex?

It may be too early to guess on sex, just looking for your thoughts. I can’t keep males and will have to rehome or cull.

Thank you in advance,

The chicks from the Silkie x Cochin cross are all pullets since they have dark skin. The rest of the chicks are too young to sex.
I've never heard of them being sex linked by skin color, but it sounds interesting. Does it matter which gender is which in the parentage?

Yes it matters when the sex link is the skin color. The father has to be the one to carry the dark skin gene to pass to his daughters.

If that is true then all 6 of my Silkie Rooster/bantam Cochin hen crosses are female. I can’t believe I got so lucky, did I? These were the first two babies to hatch of the crosses. They too have dark skin. After Sushi hatched these two out she abandoned the rest of the eggs so I put them in the incubator with the bantam hatching egg assortment I received, where I hatched out the ones you saw in my OP.

Bantams:
Mottled Cochin
Mottled Cochin
Does this check have a crest???
Frizzled mottled Cochin
Frizzled partridge Cochin
Nope. Just his fuzz sticking up a bit. I don’t think the brown one is a Cochin like the other 4 because I looked again and noticed that while the other 4 have 4 toes, it has 5 toes.
