"But you are a potato!"

Keep in mind, I'm feeding them their regular food...these inquiries are just for treat ideas. If I'm going to give them treats...I'd like to give them something beneficial. :)
As a treat, hard boiled eggs are excellent and provide many benefits, they just aren't as high in protein as many people seem to think they are. Mealworms are 50% protein and are a good treat. BOSS is a good treat especially during molts since they are a good source of methionine which is very helpful during a molt.

The mealworms and BOSS should both be viewed as treats and as such should not amount to more than a combined 10% of the total diet.

R2, I'm really confused. I see BOSS used in two ways: 1) Black Oil Sunflower Seeds and 2) a feed premix in Canada, which includes a vitamin pack, amino acids and fish meal. How does one tell one from the other?

X2, I also boil them and smash them with a potato smasher, shells and all. The cracked eggs would be perfect as you know they are chemical free. If you don't already have them in your freezer/pantry, at some point pick up a couple cans of cheap pink salmon and frozen beef liver. I keep both in my emergency supplies for the occasional bird that shows a vitamin deficiency.

x2, Boiled, smashed shell and all with potato smasher, served up in a dirty ashtray... wait.. no... no ashtray......

BOSS = Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, typically sold in whole form as wild bird feed without any additives.

I am not in Canada so am not aware of their terminologies.

ARG! Going to need to understand context in the future. I gave someone bad advice, but I did provide context so she probably thinks I'm just a loon.

x3. No ash tray  but i don't even bother to wash the eggs before boiling. Chop them up in the pan, toss a few spoonfuls in each pen. So i guess mine also get a little lead from me writing the breed and date laid on the egg too. :D
