Ikes...you guys think there's a disease going around in your flock?
Maybe the problems with the D'Uccles were genetic?
Idk. I only started losing birds when I brought these D'Uccle chicks outside to my other birds.

The two birds that died came from different breeders in different states.

I noticed, in my experience with them, that D'Uccles are rather fragile and too kind to fight for food. It is almost like they need to be raised in bird cages. That's how I am raising mine after I lost all mine last year

Okay, I'm curious now. Do D'Uccles have any genetic issues that can happen? Like with Aracaunas if two tufted birds are bred the all chicks will die:
I quote from a very genetics savvy user Sonoran Silkies:

If you breed tufted to tufted 25% will have no tufts, 50% will be tufted and 25% will receive a double dose and not survive.

If you breed tufted to not tufted you'll get 50/50 tufted & not tufted; none with a double dose.

So can other issues simalar to this occur with other breeds? I'm really curious now.

are your normal flock birds standard size? maybe it is just a case of being bullied away from the food.

The personality of a cochin my sister had, was very much go sit in the corner and let the other birds peck me all the time. even separated from the flock after that, she avoided the food and water for an extended period of time.

They could possibly be bred into them by accident?
