Oh my, I sent him an email, no language or anything, well besides a direct quote. And what I got back was well, more than a little rude. Let me post it with edited out language

We don't care.

Retro Toys makes a lot of money.

We have the worst BBB and online reputation of any business we know and no
one cares.

Our sales are up 300%.

We just don't give a XXXX

We are banking stacks of cash every day.

The reply I got was pretty much the same. They misspelled the swear word in the first line, but mention college later on! Hmm.... Now they have me fired up and I don't know what to do about it!

No one gives a dam.

We have the worst BBB and online record of any company and we don't care.

All of our businesses are cash cows.

Remember cash cows from your college economics class?

Well Retro Toys is a cash cow. It banks large stacks of cash. It is our
second best online business. It was number one for almost 20 years but
GalvanizedPail.com is now our number one cash cow.

It's worked for 20 years. We are not going to change a thing.

Customer Service

It's tough out there, that's for sure. I've been there myself, and I'm still half waiting for you to tell us you found this guy through ebay. Thats usually how these sorts of things begin.

If he has held the rest of your shipment after you've paid in full, there may be one ray of hope. He's taking money between states, so providing he has not fulfilled his end of your transaction, that means he is probably open to some federal commerce infractions. Contact the US Marshall or the FBI's Offices of Internet Fraud. Give them your information and then good luck.

But you still want justice, so here's what is left.

- Demand your full shipment once more- but don't expect it.
- Dispute the charges with your credit card company. Expect that to drag out.
- File his business with whatever online reporting options exist. Since he is not a BBB member, they have no influence. Hope for the best with this, since these bodies have little to no sanction or enforcement status.
- Report him to the local authorities where his business is registered.
Evey LE department today has a cyber crimes division. Turn him over to them. Again, good luck with that.
- Consider it a $10 lesson learned, since you did get half of what you ordered.

This back and forth banter with a petty liar and thief is getting you only grief and placing him in the power position.
Cut ties, now. TO *** with his sorry song and dance. This is just guy making out like he's some big deal. If you could actually bring some heat on him, he would morph next week and go back to it.

I just caught this part:

Shipping & Returns

Shipping charges are an estimate. If the actual shipping is more you will be sent via email a PayPal invoice for the difference. You will have the opportunity to cancel your order or your order will ship as soon as payment is received. We reserve the option to change the shipping method without notice. All orders are shipped via FedEx or USPS. UPS is only used as a shipping estimate and we do not actually ship anything UPS.

All returns request must be made via email within 7 days of receipt. There is a 20% restocking free on all returns. We never refund the original shipping charge. The buyer pays shipping coming and going. All sales over $300 may not be returned for any reason.

All damage notifications must be received within 3 days of receipt. We will make the insurance claim in most cases.

This is a very crappy policy, and again points to one person working out of his garage...one person getting over using petty tactics. I might add that this person has very carefully worked all this out, and is very clearly intended to protect the seller.

'The really bad thing about it? It is not the least bit "shady" as one person stated, since it is fully disclosed. Once you place an order, you have both tacitly and, de facto, agreed to these terms. The seller has that to fall back on at every turn.

Im not defending him, but there it is. Turn him over to whatever watchdog websites there are, certainly, but call it a well learned $10 lesson.

You may have already seen this. I ran across it and thought I would share with you. Do you think maybe they figure bad attention is better than no attention?

Retrotoys.com Reviews

Julianne G.In business 20 years & this is your customer service best? - I tried to do business with Retrotoys.com, they also go buy the name US Purchases. They definitely had the best price on the item I needed. I placed my order on a Friday, two weeks before the items were needed. By Tuesday the status of my order had not changed. I began to get concerned as the only way to contact them was via email and their business address was listed as a PO Box. I learned from another order placed, these are two red flags and very suspect online business practices. I requested the status of my order within an hour and asked for a phone number to contact them. That set off a chain of offensive emails riddled with swear words and personal attacks such as don’t you have a wife to beat, perhaps because I live in the state of Kentucky. While I tried to explain my reasons for setting a time limit on the response, their responses continued to get more and more insane. I urge you not to be tempted to do business with such unstable people on principle alone. Clearly they do not know the meaning of customer service. I am not sure how someone like that could stay in business for 20 years as they claim to have. Do not be wooed by the cheap prices. Something is obviously not right here. Order at your own risk and if you do, at least choose the Paypal option to better protect yourself. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but if not, consider yourself warned. 4/29/2009

The old rules always apply. In this case 'Caveat Emptor' is in effect.
Sad, really, that it has to be that way.

I would definitely print out the entire exchange, your email, and the reply, and a photo of the shipment and get it directly to the manager or owners.

yeesh!

if that fails, lodge a complaint with BBB. if that fails, try the local news!

I think this idiot is the owner/manager! Also it is obviously not an isolated incident. This person is greedy and just plain mean if you ask me!
