Do you guys take vitamins?

I forget to take my vitamins.

I really don't like swallowing pills, so I take a chewable kids vitamin instead.

When I feel icky I take Emergen-C (which I think is nasty tasting, but it does help so I take it anyway. Why do they advertize the "wonderful fizzy flavor" like it's actually good? Ugh *barf*)

You know Terrie, I accidently bought the soft gels last time I bought the D. I don't like them, but it's for minor reasons. They stick to the bottom of the bottle (could be our wonderful Arkanas humidity) and also stick to the bottom of my pill minder.
I know the tablets are horse pills, but I'll be more careful which bottle I grab off the store shelf from now on. I have to swallow eight to ten pills at once, so horse pills don't really bother me.

My doc stopped my B12 shots - I am deficient - and told me to take supplements. Have been taking subligual - melts under the tongue - 2000 whatever units. And an adult chewable multivitamin. I cook on cast iron or stainless steel only for a decade; when I accidently replaced a pot with an aluminum one I could taste the bitter metal in the cooked beans. So, out it goes - too much Alzheimer's in the family anyhow.
I have digestive problems and lots of health problems, so any other stuff I can tolerate will help, I'm sure.

I also had the 'duhoo' moment - buying baby vitamins for the chickens with my hacking sick college son with me, who has been eating dorm food for a year. So I did apologize and bought him vitamins too.

Nope.

Vitamins don't prevent cancer. Or heart disease, or obesity, or diabetes, or any of the other major health issues in North America. At least one major study has found an increased risk of heart disease and stroke when taking Vitamin E supplements.

What does appear to work is eating a healthy diet with lots of veggies, getting an hour or more of exercise daily, not smoking, drinking in moderation, getting plenty of sleep, minimizing stress, and living far far away from pollution sources. I don't do those last three, unfortunately for me.

Ditto - those last three have been my downfall. "living far far away from pollution sources" means living where there is no job, which means no health insurance. But how quickly would my health recover? Quick enough not to need all this doctoring? So, I take the stuff to cover what's proven in my personal situation, with the doc's ok. It's all I can do. I do have a big garden and really fresh eggs...

I take D3, B-12, iron, SAM-e, and a number of other supplements for joints, etc.
