Do You Like Feather-Footed Chickens?

The ground is too rough here for feathered feet, it's snaps off the feathers.

I love feathered feet!! I have two Belgian Malines and I got two chickens from a friend with super feathered feet (they’re a mix; Belgian Maline x Silkie x Bresse). I love Brahma’s as well but they get sick easily so it’s rather an expensive breed where I live.

It's odd seeing someone named Swamp Princess liking feathered feet. I live in a swamp myself and specifically avoid feathered feet for the health of my chickens. It would be cruel having their little feet covered in wet feathers all the time

It doesn't rain all the time here, so their feet feathers aren't covered in mud and wetness constantly. In that case, I would never have feather-footed chickens. But when it does rain, I agree, their feathers tend to get nasty.

I like my Brahmas' feathered feet, although they do sometimes look like they have toilet paper stuck to their feet. I live in a VERY muddy place with clay soil, but when they're on pasture with higher grass they stay pretty clean.

That too. Most importantly for me, it doesn't allow the birds to dig as much, and it can limit their flight ability by weighing them down

That sounds so funny to me as my Belgian Malines dig in much more than all my other chicken breeds xD They’d ruin my whole garden if I’d give them the chance haha

I don't know what your other breeds are, but the brahma over here are terrible diggers. Their holes are nothing but superficial

It gets really muddy and wet here, my brahma just stays in the coop. Her feathers are never really dirtt

I have always heard that feather-footed breeds destroy more things when foraging because their feathers can push it out of the way, but it sounds like the opposite would really happen: the feathers on their feet would wear down from digging too much.
