Double Yolk 2018-2019 - DIS

It’s possible, but very risky! If they can’t even break the membrane, they most likely aren’t strong enough to survive, and also probably aren’t far enough absorbed either.

I suppose it might be worth a shot with double yolkers, but I would think chances are very slim.

I’m definitely in the hands-on camp, and regularly assist call ducklings and serama chicks. But there’s a fine line in knowing when to assist and when to wait. But experience is the best teacher. Trust your gut and deal with whatever the outcome.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you for clarifying!

Feed has been fixed!
Okay ... admission, here ... I SO couldn't stand the suspense that I took a still of the egg and have it posted on a parallel screen alongside the feed. Is that little dark spot an air hole, an external pip ... or my imagination running away with me again?

Haha! That’s so great! :clap Good thing it wasn’t my long day.

It’s a dirt spot. No externals yet, and no true internals yet. I candled it about an hour ago and there is still lots of bouncing around in there. The air cell has drawn down quite a bit too!

Can you tell it's been too long since I've had a hatch? Last summer! As soon as this cold snap is over, I'ma gonna start collecting eggs. My oldest are over their molt and the youngest have been laying for about a month, now. They have two roos in with them, one of our best older boys and a nine-month old cockerel. Even with the notoriously low fertility rate of RC Nankins, there should be a couple of good ones in there!
In the meantime, I'll hatch vicariously through BYC ...

After this egg either hatches or doesn’t hatch we have a batch of Blue Australorp eggs going in. So we’ll have plenty of excitement happening to keep you busy until then. :)

I was going to say, you must be a real basket case with your own hatches! :gig

There was another member here, from way out on the coast of Md that had Nankins. I always wanted some. I hope I get to follow one of your hatches.
