Easter Egger Personalities

Ooh, that’s perfect! I’ve been worried about getting too docile of a breed, since I’m trying not to get saddled with a rooster and the rooster is normally the flock protector. If I do end up with an EE roo well... triple the protection?
Probably lol.
Here are some of mine.

I've heard many a tale of flighty EEs. Some were plain mean, and some weren't so keen on being touched no matter what. Now, as a person who's first flock will be entirely pets, I'd really enjoy a group of ladies who are friendly and allow me to handle them on occasion. I respect I can't force any animal to like being handled, but I would enjoy my animals being comfortable enough to do the adorable things some do as choosing to hop on one's shoulder while working in the coop, or simply eating from my hand and not running away from me every time I come too close. The problem is, I want my first flock to be just a few Easter Eggers, as they're one of my favorite breeds and I love their random feather colors. I would ideally raise five or six ladies from chicks, no more. So, to soothe my worries, I was hoping to find some owners with experience in the Easter Egger field. What are their personalities like?
Your right our easter egger acted the same way DO NOT TOUCH. We put our girls in the coop at night and started the habit of taking them off the roosts and putting them on the floor. (some of the girls are a little older and don't seem to want and make the jump) We tried to take "bunny" off last and when we did I would hold her and give her seeds out of my hand. At first she wasn't interested but then she started to come around. She still didn't want to be held until she started to lay. When you walk up behind a bird that is laying they will squat down like they are going to me mounted by a rooster. Then she thought it was AOK to be petted and later picked up. I have found most of the girls are much better about petting/holding after they start to lay. Also I have heard ..If you can isolate the hen in a small area try hand feeding her something your girls really like. do this several times and eventually they come around . Also this is last... Hold the chicks alot while you are raising them. try hand feeding while they are small. We didn't do this because we had a broody cornish hen that insisted upon raising her as well as 3 other clutchs of eggs.

22 standard Easter Eggers so far, and about 3 of them could be considered friendly. :) In this case, it boils down to individual temperament....all were loved flat from the chick stage. Stunning birds, though, and striking eggs!

Absolutely ADORE bantam EEs. I've loved all 5. Sadly, only two remain after Northern Harriers ravaged their numbers....the surviving cockerel and pullet couldn't be sweeter. :love

I have 4 EE hens and 1 EE rooster. They are all the sweetest birds of my flock! 2 of my girls love to snuggle and roost on me every time I sit in the chair in my run. My rooster is very well mannered. He runs away from me and I do not touch or hold him. I like the relationship as it is. He does his job and hopefully will give me some beautiful chicks this spring!

it really depends on the stock... my EE came from a feed store... she is GORGEOUS! but very flighty... all my chickens were literately raised in my room, and get daily treats and cuddles..she is 8 months old, and just a week ago, ate a couple mealworms from my hand cautiously, then ran away:p... I think it could be from the trama of loosing her sis to a hawk...:( long story... if you really want o hear it ill tell you, but it was a freak accident..i still love her though!! Nutmeg:

I have 4. Ours range from happy to eat out of your hand and hop in your lap, but don't like being grabbed, to ridiculously friendly (prefers people to chickens). Their eggs are amazing and who wouldn't love their muffs and beards?

Aww, aren't those the cutest birds!! And their eggs are gorgeous too! Looks like a basket of literal Easter eggs
I am so, so fond of their muffs. I just wanna snuggle their cute little faces forever. And your daughter(?) is adorable too! I especially love the muff on the bird she's holding. Overall-- cuteness over load!!!:love
