Eggs Day 21...18 of 23 Hatched/ Pics post 76 (Superglued a Chick!)

Come on, Smokey baby!!!!

Kathy- My father's name was George - if you skip a generation with a name can you be a George II?

If it takes much longer are you going to help them out or do you not do that.
I know some won't and for good reason. I admit to helping mine out. Watching them die in the shell is too hard on me. I figure if they die after they have been helped out at least they had a chance.
Wish I was tougher.

I am a wimp, too, rustyswoman- I would want to try to help and cry like crazy if I couldn't. Or it didn't work. Or damaged the baby doing it. . . .

Yes, on occasion, I do help them out. I've had some very large chicks who died just because they filled the egg completely and just had no room to maneuver. Some I have regretted trying to help because, once they were out, it became apparent that they shouldn't have hatched, like intestines on the outside, etc. Kira and Isaac's chicks sometimes get very large and some of Suede's youngsters are also that way. Suede is so huge and Smoky's eggs are so long and narrow, that makes for tough times for the little ones. This is a very large chick and she hasn't got much to go. Reached in and pulled the membrane off the face a bit and she relaxed and went to sleep, LOL.

Well, here's the drama. Both Delawares are out. One Del a rough navel, but will probably close up just fine. The other one's intestines were on the outside of the chick (pushing out the large open navel). Believe it or not, we pushed them back in, hopefully, not damaging them, and superglued the opening shut. Not sure if that one will make it, but it's out and it's HUGE and alive.
Smoky's baby is out. It could not push and when we realized the blood was out of the membrane and cracked open the egg, peeling the membrane back from the yelling chick, the chick was a giant blue baby. With that very narrow egg, it probably wouldn't have been able to push itself out. They are all three resting in the bator now and crossing fingers that they all make it. The one I'm actually worried about is the superglue baby.

Get well, baby! I hope you are not in pain!!!!

It's just resting. It worked a very long time to get out and though the egg was a jumbo, the baby is a super-jumbo! Kira's kids often seem to outgrow their eggs. We'll monitor that one, even put a different color dot on its head so we don't lose track of it. So, looks like 17 Delawares and 1 BBS Orp (looks blue).
