I am very anti-C-section too, and think WAY too many C-sections (primary and beyond) are done primarily for the Dr's convenience. Suzettex, if you were willing to do what you stated above, I think you have some MAJOR cajones and I applaud you!! I don't know that I would have the guts to do that...

Along the same lines, even if your Dr. schedules you for something (a C-section, an induction), that doesn't mean that you have to do it... they can't do a C-section on a patient that's not there.

I also think too many patients are induced - if any of your doctors want to induce, I would strongly urge you to research whether its a "true" medical reason (big baby is NOT a good medical reason). Unnecessary induction is one of the leading causes for preventable C-sections.

I was happy to hear that my doc has a lot of the same beliefs I have. He doesn't believe in Inducing, a friend of ours was 2 weeks overdue and was begging to be induced, but he stood strong. He also believes in a lot of perineal massage to hopefully avoid an episiotomy. And believes in walking during labor to keep things progressing. These were all things I was worried about and happy to hear he believes in the same things I do.

I would have found a new doctor after that! I don't really like doctors that think there's only one way to do things. My doc won't induce until at least 39 weeks, but after that he's ok with it as long as you're at least starting to dilate on your own. It's a good thing for me...I got induced at 39.5 weeks and had to be back to work 5 weeks later, so if I'd gone to 42 I would have had a VERY short maternity leave.

My obgyn wouldn't induce until 2 weeks past the due date. Fortunately I had him at midnight on the 14th day.

You poor, poor woman. I think I might have tried to induce myself if my doctor refused for that long.

That does not sound good at all, are you sure it's 26 weeks? I believe the youngest baby to survive out of the womb is 23 weeks.

Edited, because What I wrote did not read supportive at all. Sorry Deb

. But check with her, because 26 weeks is awefully early.

That does sound awfully early, but if the placental separation is bad enough to endanger mom and baby's lives, then maybe that's what has to be done.

Actually, with my 5th child, I had to go through 3 or 4 doctors before I found one willing to let me "attempt" my 2nd vbac!! She was skeptical for some unknown reason, but she let me do it. She's one of the people who told me, "If you show up in active labor and refuse to sign the c-section consent form, theres nothing anyone can do but deliver your baby!" I'm not one to be easily intimidated by anyone, especially if I've done my homework and know the realities.

It sucked having to change Dr's so many times with my 5th kid, but I ended up with a decent one in the end, so I am happy with what happened and am willing to do it again if I have to. I have NO idea what my current insurance companies policy is (kaiser), nor what my new Dr's policy about vbacs may be (havent met her/him yet), but I sure am not going to let them force a c-section on me, unless I medically need one like when I had placenta previa, or have a BIG, breech postioned baby.

Isnt it weird that I've had 2 kids vaginally since my c-section, but they still consider all subsequent births a vbac? Still trying to figure that out...

Oh and thats sooo funny that you say they cant perform a c-section on someone whos not there!!

I wonder how many women have to guts to not show up after 'Dr.God' tells them to? I wouldnt show, but I wonder how many women have shown up for the procedure unwillingly simply because they are unaware that they really dont HAVE to?
lol.png
I just keep imagining a bunch of dr's all scrubbed up in the OR waiting for the pregnant lady who never shows up!!
gig.gif
Then sitting at home waiting for that call from the Dr, just KNOWING he's gonna give you a load for not being there... too funny!!!
