Favorite Goose Breed

First, @chrissynemetz and @KDOGG331 ...you need geese!! Your heart is not completely full until you have one of these clowns to love!

My vote is for Pomeranian! BB goose is very calm, quiet, and submissive. Not the usual adjectives used for geese. I've been quite pleased with how she's always fit in with my small flock. Not to mention the coloring can't be beat! And they come in buff! :D

I may have said Cotton Patch, because I'm equally in love with them, but breeding season is starting to rear its ugly head so, ask me again in a couple months.

Because of you I considered Pomeranian, but my reading on them sounds like you either get a nice one like yours, or a bunch of rotten ones. I don't want to have to butcher any geese if I can avoid it because they are so personable, so I'm desperately trying to pick a few good ones. :fl

Ganders no matter what breed are a formidable force to reckon with. Some just worse than others lol. During breeding, nesting, and rearing season
I'm thinking about try a gander. I'm hoping it doesn't turn into Thunderdome for me.

It depends on where your located as to when it starts usually from Jan-February through May-June this is unless you have a goose go broody then breeding will stop unless you have more than one female and only one is broody. Temperament starts changing for my gander now he starts bossing everyone around next comes out right attacking my Muscovy gander and biting me if given the chance that usually starts in Jan. So actually 6 months of the year is breeding laying and brooding and raising if goslings are allowed to hatch which will extend it even further.

To have a gander you have to have a strong personality I think, no wimps allowed. Geese figure out real quick if they can dominate those who own them. Probably the main reason so many end up dumped.
I am fairly dominant despite my size and age. I think I will try one out, probably a buff. I think I may get another pair of buff and 2 female Toulouse if I can, but that's subject to change at any moment. :)

I think you'll do fine you are researching and you'll know what your getting into. Many just don't know. I can honestly say when my dh traded 3 Muscovy eggs for one Embden egg close to 13 yrs ago, I had no idea what I was getting into. I love my gander but he can sure make it hard. lol

I would love to have ducks but my dad hates them or at least doesn’t like them. Not sure what he’d do with a goose :lau

I think he is somewhat scared of ducks. And I tried selling him on the egg point and he said he doesn’t like duck eggs. Too rich for him or something like that. :barnie

So I guess they’re on hold. Or I could get them anyway :lau:oops:

But I want to move next year anyway so don’t really want to acquire a bunch of new animals haha

I want quail and ducks and goats and/or sheep and now geese and also turkeys and a bunch more chickens and a dog :lau:oops:

So I’m just gonna wait on all of it except maybe quail haha
