There is a hawk convention taking place above the Chicken Palace. This is not good.
Yesterday there were 2 (or it may have been 3) calling all day and today at least one is left.
The main conference feature appears to be a collection (there must be a nest) of Gray Catbirds (or they may be Northern Mocking birds) in the large Tulip tree that shades the Chicken Palace.
This is really not good.
The Cat/Mocking birds are really making a rukus and just now I witnessed them mobbing the hawk to move on. It stayed hovering over the field in front of the tree for some time.
The main focus is clearly the small birds but I don't like them hanging out right above the Chicken Palace.
Yesterday was too hot to go out and today nobody has any interest - they are very aware of the hawk sounds.
I am hoping if the Princesses hang out in the Palace for a few days the hawk won't transfer its appetite towards them.
I feel your pain. Please be very careful, especially with pullets.

Dakota spilled the beans! I caught her laying her egg inside an old animal carrier out in the yard. I counted 24 eggs in there! Float test revealed only 6 didn’t float. Any ideas on what I should do with the ones that floated? :idunno ???
I freeze them and then dispose of them in the trash.

Housing everywhere is bonkers here... We were just discussing this if you live here you do not work here - you can't afford to! You would need to commute to Toronto, and that's a rediculous commute! But people do it...

There is a real problem getting workers here because of housing cost and lack of rentals...

And can you believe it! Barrie doesn't allow you think keep hens !!?? Even in Toronto you can keep hens !!! No wonder no one wants to live in Barrie!! Imagine no hens Sheesh!!!! Stupid bylaw!
It is shocking!

Finally home. While we were down there did as much school shopping as she could physically stand. Just need shoes and school supplies which will be easy to get here at home. I saw some questioning why her eye dr is not local. Rosie was a premi and it affected her eyes. She has been in glasses since 10 months old and in bi-focal lenses since she was 5. None of the eye drs local would see her and she has been seeing the same specialist since she was 10 months. At 14 there is one who interned under her current eye dr who would see her now if I chose. But he said himself, they are familiar with her, and while he may see 1 every few months with her problems her dr see's them daily so recommends staying with them for now. I normally do not mind the trip. She handled it pretty good, slept most of the way there and back only a few complaining moments after her ice pack became warm. I did come home to a happy surprise. I have 2 of the new pullets laying. Not sure which 2, but I found 2 tiny pullet eggs in the corner of the coop.

Don't know what has happened, I'm just catching up, but when we had tails pumping like that, it was stuck eggs.
Yeah, I’m not sure what’s going on with her. I’ve seen it with soft eggs and in a hen with EYP. She only did it the one time that I am aware of, but still a concern.
