Ok horse people out there, I have a mare who is freaking me out. She won’t lay down to sleep, and she is very sleep deprived. She has fallen in the stall a couple times. I have given her pain meds for over a month at one point to try to get her to lay down and sleep. Didn’t help. She has no issue getting down and up, in fact rolls fine in the mud 😊. I tried leaving her out at night, but all she did was walk in circles around the manure pile - she dragged her feet so much she was so exhausted, she squared the toes off! And caused my thoroughbred mare to follow her round and round and round, both lost weight!

So back in the barn both came at night.

Last night she fell again. I am at my wits end. Any ideas?

I don’t know???? Chaco has never acted like that. How old is your horse? Type of feed, trauma maybe??? I don’t know :idunno

List of items the church gave me for my birthday.
1. Meally worms for the chooks.
2. Bread “”. “”
3. Two chicken pillows from my friend
4. Made a cake that everyone enjoyed
5. Another chicken coffee mug
The A/C wasn’t working in the church. So after service, I replaced the batteries in the thermostat, and BINGO! Now it works.

Chicken drama here today! How can that be, they are only 21 days old surely they couldn’t be anything but adorable fuzz and feathers. But yet drama they are causing.

This morning I wake up and go check on the babies. THREE of my yellow Moss eggers have bloody picked at spots on them. I cleaned them off and spray the spots with some Vetericyn. Look up why this would happen. Space they are getting cramped in the pack n play already uh O.
I had not planned on this not at all. Some quick digging online and I have a unusual yet serviceable solution. Tents are shockingly cheap this time of year at Walmart so its on the way via store delivery. Hit up tractor supply wood chips and a larger waterer and some Blue Kote for the worst baby.

My peaceful Sunday turned into chaos but the chicks will will have a 7x7 brooder space now. Hopefully that will help :fl

Pony Sunday

I am again hiding in the barn today, my mum keeps going off on a tangent stating she has a head cold and what do people know anyways, blah blah blah. Oh course I had to throw my opinion in and told her it was likely Covid as that was the majority of respiratory virus going around right now…. Bad Kelly!!! Got yelled at and told off, so I beat a hasty retreat to the barn hahaha.

I need a fridge, kettle and microwave out here and I could just stay out here! 😆

Playing with my chickies and ponies, enjoying the Barn Swallows and no one yelling at me 😊

I took these photos yesterday of the gals just hanging out in the shade

I worked with horses for years both personally and professionally and never have I seen this. I have watched and rewatched the part where she falls. What I think I am seeing is her throwing herself down. I dont see a fall per say. Her front feet come off the ground first. Almost as if she throwing herself on the ground so she can lay down. Could it be that she cant fold her rear legs to lay down and this is her solution? Can you check each leg for flexibility? If its her hips it could be impossible to test without a sling. I would definitely call New Bolton Center and see if they can do a video consult. If anyone would know they would!

Years ago before they sold the website I used to let Rosie watch the camera's on Marestare as she loved to see foals being born. I do not remember what it was called, but 2 of the farms each had a mare that would not lay down sleeping. They would fall asleep standing up and their heads would drop lower and lower until they crashed. For the life of me I cannot remember what they called this condition but could Truly have that?

Googling it up I came upon this discussion exactly on that, and many of the mares concerned seem to be broodies / alpha mares : https://forum.chronofhorse.com/t/horse-wont-lie-down-to-sleep/139128

My first reaction when seeing the video was to wonder at neurological disorder though, but she would have other signs- like difficulty to move, and stumbling.
