Light has had a bare back for half a year now ... at first it was Foggy the rooster, but her back got balder after Foggy's departure. Apparently they will peck/pluck their own feathers so it can never regrow? We bought her a chicken saddle after some research and the result is IMMEDIATE. so happy that she will have feathers for winter.
I have two girls with bare backs. I was assuming that the feathers wouldn't grow in until they molted. Maybe I should put saddles on them...

I think it is worth trying. I originally made my own using some old T-shirt. In one day, we can clearly see feathers coming out. However, the fabric was too soft for it to stay on, so I ordered online. If you make your own, pick some stiff fabric.

My two silkies were over bred by a Roo I had here, I had my mother make me some saddles for them and it helped keep them warm in the winter, and their feathers to grow back.

I do recommend if your girl needs one.
