I know, Shad. I should not have taken personal offense and I’m sorry. I think I’m being a little over sensitive because of all the broodiness combined with worrying about Ruby and Dorothy. Please, by all means, keep the rants coming. I find your perspective most educational. If I didn’t value all perspectives and experiences around chicken keeping, I’d be a hypocrite saying I want the best for my birds. One can’t probably provide the best without knowing what the best is. So thank you. :)

I’m sorry, Bob, if I created any tension on your thread. Not my intention. :) I hope to be part of this community for a long time.❤
My gosh. I'm sure there was no tension. Nothing to apologize for. I want you to feel comfortable. We love having you here. I'm glad you are intending to hang around. :hugs

My new roo dug a hole inside the barn/coop floor today, so that my Ameraucana hen  would have her own nest to lay in. I watched the whole thing from a distance. Jaffar really is one cool roo!
That is a very cool roo with an awesome name!

OK, sorry I keep talking about broodiness on the thread. But now I feel like the worst chicken mom ever. Poor Ester was not broody. The egg in the little red coop was from yesterday. She wanted to get back into her favorite laying spot, not back in to sit on an egg. I’m an idiot. She just laid an egg in the big coop. :he:oops:

So as of this moment, the only one with an issue seems to be Buttercup. She is indeed screeching from the box, but last I checked, there was not an egg under her.

Ok, I see there are some good conversations I need to catch up on, and I will! (after they go to roost)
But I’m slso trying to be better with photos. Here is my view right now:

Chickens, ball throwing stick, and chicken butt washing supplies. LOL! :lau
That gorgeous looking BR on your sofa has a fabulously fluffy butt!

Are you sure that screeching is not just an egg song, or escort call? My girls can be quite noisy in the nest box, and then Pippi joins in with them. It can get quite noisy around here.

I've lost the battle completely. Especially with Phyllis. She has the access that Maleficent always dreamed of. Phyllis runs between your legs. I can't keep her out. She gotten to eating the cat's food and drinking their water as well. She's been in the house for more than 30 minutes at a time recently terrorizing Davis.

I've been thoroughly defeated.
Join the club. There are days when I wish I had had more resolve when they started their take over bid for my territory.
On busy days it's a lot of work cleaning up and the chances of taking a quick nap with a couple of roosters shouting the odds a couple of yards from your bed are remote to say the least.
On the plus side I get to see things many chicken keepers never see and over time I've come to realize that I'm not quite the superior being some would have me believe.
My best advice.....get the floor tiled!

I was so excited to see a long post from you. I figured I would learn something and I have. You never disappoint. Thank you for taking the time to let us know what you have learned.

It is good to hear that they don't seem to lose significant weight. I assumed that they did. I do not have a lot of experience with broodies. I just figured from Maleficent's behavior she had to lose weight.

I do believe that it has to be a stressful time for them. Anything outside of a normal routine changes the stress level. I would never underestimate the effect that stress has on any being.
You're very kind Bob.:love
