I really do not remember now with Phyllis but I'm going to try and figure it out. Stand by.

So, that would be 4 weeks from now, then.....hmmmm...pushing it off another week or two due to leg issues...that, imo, is potentially too late to start laying,,right on the cusp of laying now, or wait 'til spring. Probably Glynda is on that cusp, too, as a quick search said 6 mos. for legbars. Orpingtons are supposedly 24 weeks, which is another 5 weeks from now.

This is all interesting, as BRs are purported to start laying at 20 weeks, and I have found they do reliable start @ 5 months ( 21-22 weeks) I just assumed that LF, being a heavier/bigger breed, would take longer to mature. My Light Brahmas are always 2-4 weeks behind my BR in POL. My BCMs & Welsummers (new this year to me, sort of)....1 started laying 2+ weeks ago @ about 5 months, my ?lakeshore egger? started 1 week after her, and I just got my first egg yesterday from 1 of my Welsummers (all hatched 4/11, took 4 days to arrive and all were weak...so I feel that they were about a week behind in general as it took them 3-4 days to be 'normal' in my opinion. A couple were DOA and 2 more died within 2 days - horrible % given I only ordered 15! It is terrible when the P.O. takes extra long' to deliver )

So, I am amending my POL order/guess. LF, Glynda, then Gucci, assuming that her weak leg issue affected her onset of lay. If it didn't, then LF, Gucci, then Glynda.

Yes. Glynda is a Frost Legbar.

All done, packed to the roof top….

500 rather large heavy square bales of really nice hay packed away for the geegees and we made the hay elevator fit too hahaha.


In the beginning, it was a big void… occupied by the dreaded hay elevator, and about 150 of last years bales.

I even put the horse trailer to use - I was able to put 50 bales in it! Load…. Unload…. Hard work! But my cousin and her husband helped

Then it started to fill up, 300 bales is a lot of hay! But I wheezed and struggled and my cousin her husband and I (and eventually my niece) did 300…. Filling up nicely!

Today we completed the job with an additional 200. Packed it in, and dragged the dreaded hay elevator back up for storage for the winter.
Done for another year

The east side of the barn where my access hatch is located.

The west side of the barn and the dreaded hay elevator, without which non of this would be possible! Had to haul out my ladder to access this side.

Truly hoping I will throw down some hay for her… hold the ladder Tru! I am coming down…

Tried to add these but wouldn’t load.

While I was putting hay downstairs for the geegees this week, I happened to glance in the bag I have some straw in…. And got a big surprise!!! 9 eggs hahahaha. Always said I would find a stash somewhere sometime…

Just realized I left the trouble light up in the hay mow… better drag the ladder out and go get it! If I don’t I’ll forget where it is till next spring hahaha
