Maggie - more than half a cat

Maggie left us today. I knew it would happen. I mean in general but also specifically today. She stopped chatting to me yesterday evening. She still acknowledged me but didn't chat for the first time. And I think I mentioned I think the other two had already said their goodbyes. They are very subdued today.

She died just after I came in for our early morning chat. It sounds silly, but I think she held on until I would accept it. Probably not, but it felt that way.

I have loved all my chickens but Maggie was special. She has been a real companion. She was always all attitude, and always in my face sharing her opinions.

She was just over three and a half years old, which feels like no age at all, but probably isn't too bad in her circumstances. They say cats have 9 lives. Maggie, by my count managed to have five lives. She survived (in order):
- A fox attack
- Hardware disease (two screws and some shards of metal)
- A lash egg (serious internal infection)
- Some neurological event where she lost her balance
- Another lash egg

I will miss her terribly. I will miss her attitude and her company. And I will miss the soft leathery feel of her comb and wattles as she burrowed into my hand for treats. I will miss her energy, her endless nosiness, and how she insisted on killing the water before she drank it (you never know!). I miss her independent spririt that often had her wander off quite far for solo walks (sometimes I followed at a respectful distance to ensure her safety).

I hope you will all bear with me if over the next few days I feel moved to share pictures of her.

So long my friend. I hope you find a sun that never sets, unlimited muddy puddles, and the opportunity to freely express your opinions.

Maggie - all attitude....

Well met Maggie. You will be sorely missed. 😥 rest in peace

My deepest sympathies to you RC. This is more than anyone should have to handle. :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

They learn very quickly. Trust me. It takes a long time before mine will come out from under cover after an attack successful or otherwise.
I want to go riding but yesterday they freaked out seeing me up on Lulu! Might just stay in the paddock and ride where they can’t seee the strange creature 😁

They didn’t just run for the hills they bolted for the hills!!

Umm, aren't white pigeons known as 'doves'??? :gig :gig :gig :gig

she is a very pretty lady! Here she looks like she is trying to make herself small & inconspicuous. The big red comb completely ruins her attempt, though!
Pigeons are rock doves yes. I worked on them alot back in the day

I believe she waited for you. She loved her servant dearly.:love:love:love
Despite her chastising at times, she was truly fond of you, and thought you did a job par-excellance' but Royalty can't openly admit that to the servants, you know!

These are wonderful pictures of your companion, Maggie.:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

I wish I could ease your heart-ache, like @Ponypoor, i am crying for the loss of Maggie - I feel like I knew her though your describing of her antics - and for you.

Those with no means for paying meds have social supports for it, in my case though because in the past I made too much money, I never would qualify, even now.

Since most me are not considered life threatening or altering I would not qualify… tis what it is..
I'm sorry to hear that. :hugs

It is not weird. It is perfectly normal. 😉

No, you should ride more often! Then they will get used to seeing you on the horse and be okay with it. Start out riding in the paddock next to their run...and let them see you get on the horse....they will figure it out & be okay. Remember, being prey animals, they are wary of anything new...especially something that big!
