Simon and Garfunkel are her favorite songs I guess. She sings along to “the sound of silence” Flash is one very talented chicken. I sometimes take for granted just how intelligent these chooks really are.
I really wish that their lifespan was a bit longer! Imagine the possibilities! :love

What I did love the most, was when I sat inside the coop, and played guitar to the young Rocks. Seems they were music lovers from the very beginning. And obviously they still are. Here’s a pic from the past to share with you my friends : 93A540F3-BEA9-4BF2-B28E-610E56BA68B6.jpeg A5DA1925-5941-49F9-B308-D6780AEA9A1A.jpeg

Oh, I'm on to you. You're trying to get me to do something more than just post a drive-by comment with a picture tossed in!

You may recall we got 4 little ones. Sadly, we are down to 3 now. One of the reds developed some problems and was euthanized. I'm surprised at how different this new bunch are compared to the last group. But they still like walking all over us (figuratively and literally). 😄

Life has thrown us a few curveballs and we haven't been able to give them as much attention as we would like, but we have fun with them when we can.
I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss. :hugs :hugs That is a wonderful photo though. They clearly accept you as one of their own.

🎼Tonight’s the night, we make history, honey you and I! We’ll take any risk to turn back the hands of time.
I’m singing this to Flash (the chosen chook to accompany me and Jaffar for this night). :D
I would think this would be her theme song.

🎶 And stay with you here tonight.🎵

Best of Times, by Styx, Paradise Theater album, the extremely talented Dennis DeYoung on lead vocals. (But Tommy Shaw was my favorite.)

Fond memories of favorite album tax

If the above pictures look questionable, it is because mom was playing with her. Butter was sunbathing in the sawdust. Mom decided to see just how far she would let her go if she started putting sawdust on her. She stayed like this for almost half a hour.

Gracie was confused and concerned.

This is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Butter so chill.

Also the previous mug shot can be easily turned into great meme with some caption.

I’m sorry buddy but I don’t think that fits my hen Flash. But I appreciate that honor. She’s more of a Dan Fogelburg or John Denver kind of hen. She’s still awake watching me text to you. I’m sharing my leftover Chinese food with her and Jaffar. These poultry are actually people too!

Maggie - more than half a cat

Maggie left us today. I knew it would happen. I mean in general but also specifically today. She stopped chatting to me yesterday evening. She still acknowledged me but didn't chat for the first time. And I think I mentioned I think the other two had already said their goodbyes. They are very subdued today.

She died just after I came in for our early morning chat. It sounds silly, but I think she held on until I would accept it. Probably not, but it felt that way.

I have loved all my chickens but Maggie was special. She has been a real companion. She was always all attitude, and always in my face sharing her opinions.

She was just over three and a half years old, which feels like no age at all, but probably isn't too bad in her circumstances. They say cats have 9 lives. Maggie, by my count managed to have five lives. She survived (in order):
- A fox attack
- Hardware disease (two screws and some shards of metal)
- A lash egg (serious internal infection)
- Some neurological event where she lost her balance
- Another lash egg

I will miss her terribly. I will miss her attitude and her company. And I will miss the soft leathery feel of her comb and wattles as she burrowed into my hand for treats. I will miss her energy, her endless nosiness, and how she insisted on killing the water before she drank it (you never know!). I miss her independent spririt that often had her wander off quite far for solo walks (sometimes I followed at a respectful distance to ensure her safety).

I hope you will all bear with me if over the next few days I feel moved to share pictures of her.

So long my friend. I hope you find a sun that never sets, unlimited muddy puddles, and the opportunity to freely express your opinions.

Maggie - all attitude....

Tears running through my face as I read. Maggie had a good 3.5 year of life. ❤️
