I used KY but I could have used coconut oil, I have it, thanks. The glove was kind of helpful. I kept the very end at the tip lightly loose and went in slowly with a little wiggle to ease in, and the glove never got tight.

Thanks so much!

I was with her for a couple hours and then had to go off to the new outpatient PT.

I'm afraid I'm seeing Peanut stand and slightly heave, while slightly hunched, yet alternating with foraging and looking okay. So she is not okay.

Thanks for your thoughts. Not sure what the next step should be.

Yes, treated with permethrin 10% solution last Saturday. But she'd had the diarrhea before that. I'm not sure what to do next. They should have a second treatment with the spray soon. I'm wondering about an infection now.

I'm okay. I did need the rest last night, and Peanuts spa and all did take a long time today. I got reassurances from the PT lady that I'm both doing well walking (weirdly, but hardly needing the cane) and am also insanely weak with a certain groin muscle group, confirming why it feels so awkward to walk and why I can barely get my foot above and into a shoe in a controlled manner despite doing the previous exercises religiously. New sets of exercises to add to what I'm already doing. Also reassured that the operation did not cut into those ligaments (I was fearing a rotator-cuff situation of lifelong pain there) but did stretch them quite a bit and they need time and me exercising them to knit back properly.

I had this at 44 after a couple years of wrong diagnosis and finally cancer dx. I am very happy for you! Troubles there are the worst. Surgical menopause can be rough (hot flashes to the extreme) but can be eased somewhat and may last only some months at their worst. I am wishing you the speedy recovery you deserve, and the truly wonderful feeling of a peaceful belly!

I'm wondering about this, not for gastritis but some egg production /salpingitis problem. I have feared she could end up with it as her eggs have been an issue since she began laying. 😥

Yep some enrichment for sure! They will have to rearrange things just so!

My mum and I were discussing the weather and it is very unusual here - we would have snow by now, it might melt but we would have had snow. And it is not usual to have such cold weather out west just yet. So topsy turvey.

How do you prevent your eggs from freezing? Last winter I was working from home so I was on hand for each blessed event of the laying of the eggs. This year I am planning on being out west! How long can an egg stay in the nest before freezing? Maybe I will put a curtain in the Hen House doorway to help keep any warmth in there but the chickies can push through to get in there to lay an egg… thoughts anyone?
You have electricity...you might consider putting a flat panel heater in the favorite nest box

I am making it a goal to get outside tomorrow and take lots of pictures as I feel I owe a lot of tax. Now that I have a date, I need to make a list of things that need to be done chicken-wise before surgery. I also need to make a final decision on who is going to be my "chicken keeper". Due to my diabetes I know I will have to spend 1 night in the hospital. I'm thinking Rosie. If I choose mom, then she will finally get that accurate exact number of chickens. She is close on her guess, but, we do not need to know the real number. I do want to clean out the coop thoroughly tomorrow and then one more time before surgery. I need to make sure it is properly winterized as well.

Getting There

So, I don't know if y'all remember, but each fall I try to put up bags of leaves and pine needles, that I use (mixed with shavings) for bedding throughout the winter. My goal this year was at least 30 bags (plus some loose in the run)

I'm up to 24 bags, and so far, 3 large garbage cans full of leaves in the run! I'm hoping to get the rest done tomorrow, as rain is predicted for Friday. I don't like to bag damp leaves as they mold.

"I'm outta here!" Morning rush to leave the coop!

Sounds like a plan! But be careful to not over do it ❤️

Just tell your mum it’s 2 dozen… after that it’s impossible to count them anyways!

I am working mum up to agreeing to taking in my niece’s hens…. Just for the winter, to get their mites under control and to protect them in the winter cold. It’s the ducks that I worry about. Don’t want them, no matter how cute they are. I could get an awesome home for them tomorrow, they have Indian runners where I keep the horses when I work out west.

I have a project to work on and I am up to the task! Now to go work on mum…. Elicite her sympathy and indignation and assure her that 5 more hens will be no more trouble than the currant 13!!! And to work on my niece to get a new home for Sunny and Daisy…

I will have to work on mum, needs slow and methodical work…
