That's because you have skinny leghorns ( no offense Glynda - your bottom glows, but is quite svelte!) and production Rocks.:lau:lau

That's okay, though. Everyone can't have a Marylin Monroe derriere! If so, they would end up being so passé. Variety is what makes each one beautiful in it's own right! Just ask Betty!
Glad no one is commenting on my adorable tush!

Ya ya ya ok more tax

Love those wattles on this hen of my niece’s
Might steal her

Wow, so much GREEN...

oops, um, I mean SO MUCH FLUFF:oops:

Inky has such a splendid fluffy bottom, with some really nice tonal variation in the grey ("blue/lavendar)🥰🥰

MeiMei, Foxy and Wendy have some serious fluff going on, too. Is Honey finishing up a molt? She looks like she is normally fluffy based on parts, but looks a bit sparse here & there.

Hey, Tina, what's a matter U, not showing any derrière today? Too busy watching the perv with the camera, huh!:gig Tina must be a curious one - every flock needs one! :)
Today was 4c-15c (39.2f - 59f), a very nice day. I still have 4 small tomatoes hanging... Forecast says Sunday the lowest will be below freezing.

Inky has gone through 3 molts already (21 months old). She always has the best feathers.

Honey is not finishing up a molt unfortunately. We have three commercial layers (called golden buff) and they just keep laying. None of them have molted while everybody else has.
  • Light: golden buff with chicken saddle. Her feather is a mess. Hasn't molted.
  • Honey: golden buff. Could be going through a slow molt. She is losing some feathers on the back towards tail. But it has been like this for a long time.
  • Poopy: golden buff. similar to Honey but in a bit better feather shape.
According to Manue, it is even normal for these commercial layers not molting in their 2nd winter. Sigh. I really want them to molt and be more normal.
  • Tina: RIR. She is finishing up her soft molt. I believe she laid an egg today (first egg since a long time), with very thin shell.
  • Wendy: RIR. She finished molting maybe a month ago. She has been laying eggs after molting. She lays JUMBO eggs.
  • Inky: rhode island blue. She finished molting 2 or 3 months ago? She is also laying.

Then the two littles (Foxy and Meimei) are laying too, maybe every other day. I am really surprised that everyone is laying (except for Tina but she may start back laying)... I even waterglassed eggs for winter egg shortage...

Finally, Tina is a curious one. She is very agile. Tiny and fast. She is not quite herself with the molt. She is biological mother of Foxy and Foxy is definitely an upgraded and enhanced Tina.

That first picture is stunning! Definitely wall-worthy. Submit it to POW for sure. It is truly lovely.
Hello FBA! While some of you are struggling with ice, the rain yesterday and a bit of sun today has completely melted our snow. I'll confess I'm happy to see the sun back. Three days of having to dry our stinking boots by the stove is enough for me 😅!

I've got a lot of butts today. I wouldn't dare post so many pictures normally but I had almost none last Friday so I figure it would balance out !

A bully's butt, Piou-piou. She's growing uncontrollable! I haven't let her know about Ask Aurora because who knows what would happen 🤣.

And some ex-batt's butts : Brune, Cannelle and Nougat. Some of Nougat's new feathers are broken already, you can see one sticking out in the right. I'm not sure if they have grown wrong or if she has been pecked. But she's got most of her feathers back, and is almost done with her awful molt 💚.

Amazing fluffage shots you got there.

So I am supposed to be taking my pain medication every 6 hours. And I did the first day. I had been able to stretch it to every 8 to 9 hours since. This morning I did a bad thing accidently. My alarm went off to take it, I was sleeping good so I shut it off and went back to sleep. When I got up it was 12 hours since my last dose and oops I am feeling it. I could not sit up to get out of bed, crawled out. I was warned by those on here, and my mom not to let it get out of my system. I should have listened is all I'm going to say.
It can be a hard lesson learned. I'm sorry this happened to you. :hugs :hugs

I hate waiting for UPS. Got a

Logitech - G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel and pedals for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC - Black

so I can play my Forza 5 and actually steer.

You should enter that photo in the POW.

I feel better, oh so better...

I feel better,
Oh so better
I feel better and peppy and spry!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me today

(ok so maybe not really peppy and spry - but I do feel better!)

AND I even managed to check in while mum put the chickies to bed and I screamed at them to behave... "Rose; Rose; ROSE darn you stop pecking your mama! Don't make me come out there!"

My neighbour thinks I am a nut! and Mr @BY Bob I totally know your pain with watching them with their bedtime antics :(
I really try not to watch. Maybe once a month I check in on what is happening.

Tonight Betty got a roost!

I had quite a start tonight as well. I check the Hut and saw this.

I was getting ready to head out to find Glynda and decided to check the other camera. I found this.

That Lady Featherington is big enough to hide behind for sure.

Lots of snow here. Heavy packing snow at first, now fluffier. I don't know the inches but it's up to and over my knees and takes a few shovels to get to ground.

Worked like a dog yesterday taking down the poultry net fences & wrapping up the wire, clearing my collection of various shaped landscape stones so DH can snowblow and I can find them this winter, and bringing in the last aviary nets. I will say these Buckeyes are NOT adventurous happy campers in the cold! I left up the aviary netting as long as I could, because it offered them lots more roaming possibilities. There was no snow! But they are the wimpiest Buckeyes. They have not lived up to their reputation! :old

Sorry, ladies.

Maybe because Peanut was molting so hard, and was so cold, she never wanted to lead them out there?

Maybe their covered run is Paradise?

With the aviary netting down I secured the (under) roof tarps on that side, and consolidated the greenhouse frames.

Here's before I went out to shovel some and clear off their coop. The green tarp there while keeping the driving snow out for now is blocking some ventilation. So I have a new plan to hang one from the door top at the wall angled out to the edge of the overhang. It's the exposed western side. The eastern side has no problem and is working great.

Peanut Long-Neck. She needs her outer contour feathers to grow in more, and underfluff too. She still looks 50% as big as the others.

Butters' derriere for FBF, Peanut in front.

And her great silhouette. Butters is also sporting the popular mussed-look. The lower black tail feather looks like a dart stuck there!

Uh oh, the photographer has overstayed her welcome. Or maybe Butters is ready for her close-up now!! Beautiful Butters. Nice Punk hairstyle, there! She says No, not Punk, it's called The Molt. Very fashionable!

Oh Rebecca bad girl! It takes so long to build up in your system again 🥺 hugs hugs hugs… ok well lesson learnt I am sure. You will have to just soldier through for the day now. I hope you feeling ok again soon . 💕💕🌸🌸

Worst Weather
Today is an example of the worst weather we get. It's not blizzards. It's not hurricanes.

it's ice.

It iced all night and is still freezing rain at this moment. I went out just before lunch time to feed and water the chickens. They were hanging out under their coop nice and dry.

While i was out there I her a huge crack and down came one of the truncated l trunks of the birch tree. Thankfully i got all that dead stuff trimmed and the roof replaced on the coop because down it came.

The arrow shows where it broke off.

Here are some more photos of the ice. Be sure to zoom in on them to see the details.

Just down the street from us a pine tree was sagging below car height.

I would rather 3 feet of snow to this stuff. Very dangerous. This is why I chose a development with underground wiring. Very little chance of a power outage. So far so good. We still have power. 🤞
You be careful! Even a limb that size falling on you can do some serious damage to your skull! 😳😢

I am also very glad you got that tree trimmed up.

It is beautiful but you’re right I would rather snow to freezing rain.
