Don't I know it! 95 days till chicks for me, 95 days till chicks...

🎶95 days until I get chicks, 95 days indeed. Go to sleep, wake up the next day. 94 days until I get chicks.🎶

So I’m still too high 🙁
I know from later posts it went down. But you really need to get a handle on what is causing it to spike so you can avoid the culprit.

Gorgeous! *swoon*

Happy Caturday
OMG he is ADORABLE.
Good afternoon everyone.
I have some sad news to report today. Last night I lost little Athena to a monster Raccoon. It was after midnight and the chickens out of the blue started screaming their heads off. By the time I got my shoes on and out the back door I spotted it packing Athena's body towards the creek bank. Thankfully my dogs were right behind me and they tree'd the evil beast in the mimosa tree. He is no more and will never have another chicken dinner. To make it worse I woke up this morning to also find that overnight for no reason I can find the smallest of Chiquita's leghorn babies passed as well. I am at a complete loss with that one. I have to think there was something wrong with it because it was noticeably smaller then the others and the only one who had yet to manage to fly out or in the tote on it's own. I buried Athena and the leghorn together beside Daisy. The evil raccoon did not deserve to be buried, he is in a garbage bag to be picked up Monday morning. Poor Ducky is beside herself. Athena was her partner in crime and she has looked for her all day. In a day or two she will be alright. Perdita and Grackle have been trying to hang out with her and she will for a time. Then she splits off and goes back to searching for Athena.
Oh no! I am so sorry for your losses. That is horrible. Glad you caught the culprit in Athena’s case.

I know it is a little past midnight for me, but here is a Caturday pic.

Frogger keeping me company.

Have been reading that they should have low roosts due to their weight / size. How high are yours? I am going to lower mine for the Silkies anyways to about 2.5' and put a high roost up for those that can fly really well. But I want to keep the Silkies down low.
3-6 feet. They move around a bit, but like the higher roosts. My giant roo, Rusty liked roosting around the 5 foot mark too. However, I have dirt/litter floor so the landing has some give.

Yep can you imagine Fluffy sitting on 5 of them when they are a few weeks old 😳😁
They grow at the same rate as other chickens. That's why they don't start laying until layer. They just kinda KEEP growing

8 months (Kren is 6 months)

They will be a year next month....and can do some more growing for the next 6 months or so. I'll see if they'll pose for new pics in the morning.

Oh he's a beauty! I love their colour - with the red barring pattern - the hens are really lovely also.

I think I am gonna need more that 2 Silkies broody with the size of these chicks hahaha! Maybe one of the barnyard mutts will go broody - Misty or Whiskers - or both!

Such beauties :) I am really looking forward to getting them. I wonder how much of their size is fluffy feathers ❤️

I think they are also really cold hardy - I hope that the heat doesn't bother them too much - I will have to make sure to put them into a cooler location I think. Maybe I will turn Truly's stall into a coop (enclose the top of the stall with coon proof wire) that way it should be safe them. Truly can go into Sally's stall.
