When CrazyChookChookLady did this for her daughter's school she did a full education including bringing dear old Stanley in to show the class. That's how it should be done. You should make it a condition that you get to help teach.

Rain Rain Go Away
Come again some other day,..

Not good when the ground is froze and can’t absorb the water.

Already had a good thunder storm started at 6am, but it’s stopped so I am making a run for the barn to do chores

I gabe 1.5 doz egg of Mr P fertilized eggs to my friends daughter along with 6 for myself.

The silkies will be polish x silkie (Polkies if you will). And the other eggs will of course be 1/2 Polish that I am getting.

Then we got to talking, and to get new blood into her flock we am going to bring one of her Roos here to fertilize the silkies only. Mr P can still run around boinking the other ladies.

To do this I will need to keep my gals separate from Mr P for 3 weeks so his sperm goes bye bye and the silkie Roo can be in quarantine that time.

Then I will let him in with the silkie gals and in about a week should have some fertilized eggs that are pure silkie. I do not want any of my girls chicks but one of her ladies chicks if it’s a Roo I would take (fresh genetic material for my gals if I ever hatch eggs again).

She doesn’t want to risk getting silkies from somewhere right now, with AI so prevalent right now. We both pretty much keep our flocks contained. Not to mention who knows what other diseases are out there! Both of us have closed herds - we have brought anything in for a couple years.

After a month her Roo will go home and my gals can go back to the main flock.

Only upset is with any broodies….

I like the white Roo he is a pet, and he used to follow me around when he was young.

Do you both know the Marek’s status of each of your tribes?

I’m feeling sorry for Mr. P getting usurped by another roo with some of his hens after he’s earned their trust! But I’m gathering you don’t want a father-son duo as roosters there, for down the road. Then I think of the silkies getting jumped by a strange roo they’ve only just met - hey, who’s this guy? How does this kind of thing usually go?

Now I have to say, sometimes sending those chicks home changes lives… my Sort of Buddy Wayne (we have different keeping ideals, and I won’t hatch with him again, power and water or no…) got into chickens that way over 60 years ago. His single chick was a Rooster he hid in his closet, then his father found out and they got a bunch of hens. Wayne’s chickens are what keeps him on a semi even keel… pretty much the only thing that does other than his motorcycle. He has had an interesting life but chickens have always been pretty central to it since that fateful day back in elementary school…

Well before they even consider sticking an incubator in the classroom. There’s place here that will essentially rent out incubators and take the chicks back at the end Of the “lesson”. Ridiculously irresponsible!

I'm very glad that Wayne was helped by chickens. Many people are.

Jaffar has tried on his new scarf and I think he likes it. He hasn’t tried to remove it yet and seems comfortable with wearing it. It’s cold and windy outside and the chooks are being blown around the yard. (Except Jaffar, inside with his new scarf)

But can’t help it, first impression is he looks like a vulture now! Not necessarily a bad thing, vultures are cool.

I did not post this picture earlier. But holy moly look at that tail. She is all legs and tail. This little one normally holds that tail the most upright when moving. She is easy to pick out in the group of Marshmallows. Therefore she is my little Peep. Ok, truth be known, Rosie gave them all names, I call them all Marshmallows or Peeps. I've forgotten what she named them. She remembers but if I am out there by myself, I forget and resort to calling them my little "Peeps." I have also claimed my Rooster's know how to strut. The Marshmallows, they need a runway or a catwalk. They are models and they know it. @BY Bob knew what he was talking about when he claimed Leghorns are wonderful chickens. Actually, he has always known what he was talking about. First the Marans and now the leghorns. We are just going to pretend my silkies are polishes and not go there.

Their shape is so attractive. You are right, they strut like a rooster. But they are also not afraid to get dirty. So much fun.
