To be honest, I think he looks only OK now after seeing so many other roos in person and on BYC, especially those of rural mouse's and Rebecca's.

Plus, he was such an ass**le.

He's still a looker! I have 2 who are lookers, but it won't save them from freezer camp if their behavior goes down the tube. Kren and Horus are the biggest IDIOTS here. Neither is human aggressive, but the maul any hen they can catch, oh boy. Their divide and conquer tactics are a pain too, when they go for the hens. On the other hand, if something attacks the hens, those tactics are exactly what they need to do. They're still a month shy of a year old, so hopefully they calm down with the ladies by this fall. They apply the divide and conquer going after Cheetah, too. He's so little it's a good thing he's faster than either of them.

Possibly, but I'm not finding blue in either breed. The angle of the shot makes the body size difficult to tell, but he doesnt really fit Horus' profile, other than replacing the black with blue. As a roo, egg color is much harder to determine, too, until he has a bunch of offspring.... coming from TSC, hes probably going to remain a bit a bit of a puzzle. He's an interesting one.



Apparently privet hatchery carries a blue breasted brown leghorn. No pics though. Seems to be VERY new.

And leghorns have yellow legs!

I was also searching for rhode island blue pictures a lot as there is not much info available. Thank you for the link.

Inky is our other RIB, who is completely gray. She is like a saphire gem.

Foggy's two daughters, whose mother is RIR, are both RIR looking with an orange/copper pop in their hackle feather and blue legs.
Foggy+ Wendy (RIR)'s son, turned out to be white feather with some dark splash.
Foggy+ Inky's son, turned out to be black. Looks like a black Australorp.

I was trying to figure out his genetics at some point, but couldn't find anything helpful. Thankfully I have the link (on chicken genetics) that you provided us now. But I am only going to study it if I hatch out my own again.

I found a different one that popped more options (including the "odds are so high against that it will never happen") but I can't remember what it was, neglected to bookmark it and can't find it now. Ran across it late last summer/early fall when trying to figure out Kren and Whiskey and the spangles/half lacing

And those are a very pretty yellow. The roo had gold/almost orange legs. RIR have the really bright legs. Some wyandottes have yellow legs too, but not as bright as the RIR. Now I'm trying to figure out how they turned the black breast blue. Genetically, the blue tends to dominate over most feather patterns. It likely was a multi generational selective breeding program. And I'm intrigued. Not enough to lock up certain of my birds to breed for it (I have black breasted red and black breasted silver genetics, and the blue is evident).

There is A single pic of a UK blue red leghorn...and quite the range of yellow in leg color. Some of the buffs even look more like orpington legs

Hello FBA, I am dropping by, first and most to thank @Ponypoor for last week's synopsis. I read it only on Monday and forgot to say how awesome it was .

As some of you read elsewhere since I've been rambling a lot, it has been a trying ten days (although nothing compared to Bybob and the issues some of you are going through).
I'm sad to share as many of you liked her, that I discovered last Friday (31 march) small Piou-piou had a very ugly wound under her wing. I only have a vet appointment on next Wednesday, and I'm uncertain that it will still be time. (We can't access antibiotics any other way).

My cat Grochatila also gave us a serious health scare. After 24h in the clinic he was diagnosed with Cholangitis, duct infection, he's been back since Thursday afternoon and doing much better with a ton of meds.

Since yesterday my hen Brune is taking the egg bound stance, but I can't feel an egg, she hasn't laid in six months, and her belly feels swollen with liquid. Three and a half year old Ex-batt, I'm ready for whatever may happen.

And to lighten it up, a bit of chicken drama- it seems tiny Théo's reign is finally to be overcome by huge Gastounet! With a lot of chicken drama for the ex-batts who, if they did not really appreciate Théo, are mostly scared of Gaston!

I really love Kren!

I really like him too. His colors are so varied. He has a pea comb which is better for my winters. He's very alert and he moves around quietly through brush (surprising for his size). Personality is more debatable. Once he's through the idiocy phase, we'll see how he does. He's been known to try mating a hen who's trying to lay an egg. I'm kinda hoping someone turns up broody and kicks the stuffing out of the idiots for trying that. I'm also hoping he turns into a Branch type and watches over babies.

Now that the migratory birds are back (at least some), I'm leaving eggs in a couple of spots for a few days. Indigo has belly feathers missing, so she's thinking about it. Previous broodies haven't done so to my notice, but she's also pretty tiny, so that may be part of it. So far, no one's sitting. I'm NOT, however, playing chick sounds for the girls like @Ponypoor is. If someone will commit to sitting, try to get a variety of eggs under her just to see what happens.

I will have to raid the nests tonight/tomorrow. A dozen in each place is a bit much.

I am terribly sorry to hear about Piou-piou. Do you have any idea how she might have been injured?

Poor Grochatila. It is good to hear that she is improving.

Those are certainly challenging. I have been fortunate and it appears my group is over their sickness. I pray that you are as successful treating yours.

I just love Merle's voice. That was awesome!

I feel a little sad for Théo but it was inevitable much like my Betty's reduced status. Glynda was never going to stay behind her for long.

I hope you enjoy your Easter.

I feel much better this morning. Going out to feed the chooks and tweens and gonna check chicks. My sister was worried yesterday so Ill camm her back this morning
