This time it was partially my fault. Momma was amped up tonight and I knew that. We mowed the grass and she was agitated. I should have been paying attention to her especially with chicks this young. I was not. I was in a hurry and crouched down to shut the door and she struck. I was also lulled into a sense of false security with her as she had not tried any of her normal stunts towards me in a couple days. This is why you can never let your guard down with this hen when she has chicks.

I would probably get a cut if Felicitas went broody. While laying she tried pecking me for the first time ever. She just tasted wood instead.

@Ponypoor or anyone else who may be able to help with this:
This is Agathae. She is 3 pounds. Her breed standard is 5 1/2 pounds. She is from September last year, so eight months old. She has been laying from around March. Now I need to know: Is she underweight? Abigail should be 7 pounds but is only five, so I am wondering if the flock is not getting what they need. If underweight, how to get her to normal weight? Will she ever get to normal weight or is she just off her rocker?
And if she is underweight, could it be causing her to lay shelless eggs? It's got to be either underweight, stressed, not enough calcium, being a young pulled, excessive begging for mealworms, being in a rush, or just being a fan of not putting a shell on her eggs.
Would bleinding yogurt and eggshell togheter be a good way to get the calcium into her?

What are they being fed (besides mealworms)? Nutritional breakdown of the feed would be useful, too. Do they have access to oyster shell? Do they browse on stuff in/around the yard? (If so, what?)

Ok, there is something also that helps when you are struggling to know what a word means.
Break down the word. You have to look at the roots.

You have to look, miser. Miser means someone who is miserable.
So, commiserate.

Hmmmm in my dictionary a miser is a person who is stingy

Well darn, no argument here, that is a crow, congratulations you have a boy. I still have high hopes Martina is a girl. Her feather pattern coming in is soft and feminine. If those gold patches were redder then I would be worrying.

I was a bit worried because she has been very independent, but today Rico was actually picking a hopefully play fight with Martina and Tippy, both backed down from him.

Yes I sent a dozen eggs from just the big girls not the Silkies.

If boys I will pack in the freezer easier if they are big chickens.
