I love when you talk breeds I understand and learn completely.Glad it made sense. In general breed name is the last part. The rest is color variety. The newish hybrids and designer ones (sapphire gem for example) are sort of exceptions. The example I just used: translated into the same sort of thing would be Blue Mutt or something along those lines. Doesn't change that they're pretty birds, just sounds fancy.
Rock slide? You’ve heard of Rock and Roll. We roll!
Calling the girls for a nest spot he has found - mostly my gals ignore Mr P when he does that - poor guy!
Hmmm. He does look like some kind of rock though. Like some kind of Plymouth rock. I will get a pic of El Morya today and he looks like a younger version of your roo.Cuckoo maran
Leg color should be different. Body shape too (sometimes this one's really subtle).Hmmm. He does look like some kind of rock though. Like some kind of Plymouth rock. I will get a pic of El Morya today and he looks like a younger version of your roo.![]()
Ok here goes:Similar to Marans. They come in that I know of Black Copper, Black, Blue, Blue Copper, Splash, Wheaten, Black Tailed Buff, White, Cuckoo *barred*, and Lavender. Some in Australia are working on other color varieties. Add to those colors if they have feathered legs and toes they are French Marans. Clean legs are the British or American variety. I have both French and American varieties in my flock. No matter the color they all have a large single comb, flat back with a tail that should be no higher than a 45 degree angle. Their leg color should be slate with flesh or pink pads on their feet, except Cuckoo, I cannot remember what their leg color is supposed to be. They are also large birds as they are a dual purpose breed with the hens laying dark or heavily speckled dark eggs. Next to the Breese the French love them and they are considered delicacies. I would not know, I cannot personally eat my birds.
McMurray has some how to tell the difference videos too.
