Glad it made sense. In general breed name is the last part. The rest is color variety. The newish hybrids and designer ones (sapphire gem for example) are sort of exceptions. The example I just used: translated into the same sort of thing would be Blue Mutt or something along those lines. Doesn't change that they're pretty birds, just sounds fancy.
I love when you talk breeds I understand and learn completely.

Fluffy and Curly have their beaks full with that wee Penne - today she flew up into the Spruce tree and gave them both a fit! It was just too funny! Then she jumped onto a curved branch that is out in the run - just as the wee grey silkie went to step up onto it - the branch flipped up and wacked the poor thing under the beak!

That chick is jet propelled!

Similar to Marans. They come in that I know of Black Copper, Black, Blue, Blue Copper, Splash, Wheaten, Black Tailed Buff, White, Cuckoo *barred*, and Lavender. Some in Australia are working on other color varieties. Add to those colors if they have feathered legs and toes they are French Marans. Clean legs are the British or American variety. I have both French and American varieties in my flock. No matter the color they all have a large single comb, flat back with a tail that should be no higher than a 45 degree angle. Their leg color should be slate with flesh or pink pads on their feet, except Cuckoo, I cannot remember what their leg color is supposed to be. They are also large birds as they are a dual purpose breed with the hens laying dark or heavily speckled dark eggs. Next to the Breese the French love them and they are considered delicacies. I would not know, I cannot personally eat my birds.
Ok here goes:

Cuckoo Maran:

Pinkish white legs - kinda like mine hahaha
