Good morning :)
I just dropped in for a momentous announcement.

PRINCESS has laid an egg. I don't believe it.

Wow that’s a lovely egg too! Penelope laid an egg after not laying since I put a couple f her eggs into the incubator. 3 weeks ago I would say. To be fair she has gone through a partial molt.

Has she cleaned up her lovely feathers ? She looked like she had a lovely time getting all mucky 😊

Welcome to BYC and Fluffy Butt Acres!
Keep reading the thread. I have gotten to over 3000 pages so far and it is well worth it for the amount of info and laughs in it.
We also have a tax system for going off topic-I will leave that to @Ponypoor to explain.
Make sure you share lots of photos of your chooks!
@Valerie25106
Welcome we love to hear about, and seeing everyone’s chooks ❤️

As @notabitail stated if any of us go off topic (chatting about anything other than chickens), we must pay a tax of photos of our beloved chooks (I pay a lot of tax haha).

If you check out By Bob’s tag at the top you will see a link to a synopsis of this thread, and also his chickens and the famous tax payment.

You will also see that each day has a theme for photos. Yesterday was Caturday Saturday (which is borrowed from another thread on Backyard Chickens we post pics of our kitties), today is Pony Sunday - we are free to post photos of anything other than chickens, like horses, goats, cows, etc.

Pony Sunday

Reenie sharing dinner with Penelope, she is yawning, must be a tough day eating and swatting flies!

Congratulations!
I am tired and should be in bed. So I will be hauling myself there soon.
I hope you get your sleep!
(I did have a dream that Hattie came into my bed, slept, and then jumped out of it while I was trying to make her more comfortable-the things a cold does to your head].
Hope you’re feeling better soon, Hattie is a lovey old lady she is a darling and very pretty
❤️

Finally caught up again. I am fine, ankle still a PITA but getting a little better. Husband is fine other than he hates sitting still and keeps doing g things he shouldn’t with his shoulder. Chooks are all fine. Coco is STILL broody but I think she might be starting to quit. She gets off the nest a little easier and stays off a little longer.

Coop dried up finally, now I need to clean out all the shavings and put in fresh. Neighbors were supposed to help me to get the compost, but have decided they are too busy right now. So I have to try to sneak out and do it myself so husband doesn’t try to help. 🙄
There is a lot of chest bumping going on as the littles establish their pecking order.
Sylvie is particularly active in these little fights. Gulp. Might she be a little boy?
My girls sit a lot of chest bumping when they were young. It isn’t just makes that do it.

I had dinner.
The soda had no high fructose corn syrup.
And I want another pizza.
Mmmmm, real sugar Dr Pepper. :drool

On the topic of ticks - I sprayed my shirt with the permethrin spray as per I think it was @GregnLety's suggestion. But I found a tick wandering happily on the arm of the shirt.
Isn't that spray supposed to kill them on contact?
I hung the shirt in the shower in the evening and sprayed it so it dried overnight.
So now I am back to being all paranoid about the ticks!
It is my understanding that it is a deterrent similar to OFF but I have found it works better then deet based products in my area.

I spray it on my clothes and exposed skin right before I go out, the effect only lasts for like 4 hrs or so since it is a sent based deterrent, as far as I know that is.

I don’t think it kills them :( I wish it did. Not much kills ticks. Fun fact: ticks can live for a year or more with no food source at all. I mean thats weird right?
Hmm. The bottle says it stays active for a month or five washes. I need to read it again.
Maybe I got a different version too, if there is stuff that lasts that long, I want some too! Please do let me know what you find and how long it works.
As Greg said, it is a deterrent, it doesn’t kill them. But you have to spray the clothing thoroughly, and not just your shirt. It needs to be your whole outfit. Has to be enough molecules of it present to work. And it it is the Sawyer Permethrin it should NEVER be sprayed directly on your skin or on your clothing while you are wearing it.

There are some upsetting pictures of BBQ...
I'll tell you if you don't want to see.
Her once fluffy bum is covered in dry droppings- I tried getting it off in her bath tonight but it wouldn't.
Her whole crop and stomach is bare. And her wing joint.
And her bumblefoot-foot compared to her normal foot...

Poor girl. Be sure to read the posts on the next few pages after yours. They posted some good info on bumble foot, but as a reply to notabitail who posted he is also having bumble foot issues

Always. It is why my place is full of boxes. I hate to through it out while they are enjoying it!
That huge box my trailer sprayer came in is a huge hit! I have had to ‘rescue’ a couple of small chicks that get in the box and can’t get out 😁

I might just keep that box as a hiding area - I am sure even my older gals will enjoy it.

It’s infected and needs antibiotics. Can you get any for her? Or the person watching them when you go away?
I'm leaving tomorrow and I have no idea what antibiotics she could take.
The person watching them probably couldn't. I don't wanna freak him out by asking to individually give my chicken medicine, and I don't want it to be the wrong one.

Tetracycline is the antibiotic of choice.

Ok you have a lovely vacation take lots of photos so we can all live vicariously through you 💕
