I have a very sad update on Eli.
As I expected, Eli died overnight. Actually very early this morning.
I have a preliminary necropsy report that her cause of death was a very large intestinal tumor that more or less completely blocked her intestines.
The chap said it was an unusually large tumor and that while it could possibly be Marek's, it was unusually large for a Marek's disease tumor.
Of course there is nothing 'usual' about such a young chicken - still technically a pullet - to have a big tumor regardless of the cause, so I agreed to have tissue sent to a university lab for testing. I will know more in a few weeks.

Eli and I spent a truly remarkable day together yesterday. I will post more about it when I stop sobbing.
I am sure when I post it will be very emotional and you will all accuse me of both anthropomorphizing and sentimentality.
She was a special little chicken and I miss her already.
My deepest sympathies. :hugs :hugs

Hopefully the chicks was able to learn some important lessons from Auntie Eli, lessons only a momma hen can teach.
I for one pray that they decide to roost in the rafters when the time comes. I imagine nothing would make Auntie Eli more proud.

Again, I am so, so sorry. I feel like I caused you more pain - when I wanted to just help. I know Eli was very special to you, and that BOTH of you enjoyed the 'I'll find those sunflower seeds" moments. I am glad you got to know her - but so sorry and sad that it was such a short time. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

The neighbor is attempting to fill the holes in the fence, so to keep his birds in his yard. It’s hilarious that the more he tries, the more his birds want to come over to my yard. Two handsome, miniature bantam roosters (the really tiny ones) came over today too. Then hopped back over the fence. They were good fliers. Jaffar just stayed close to his ladies.

So sad, maybe you can ask for the chicks, a young male can grow up under Jaffar and learn about being a good boy.

And pullets to add to your egg flock 💕

These monsters ? I’m not sure if they are trainable or not! Total disregard for my own chooks property! :barnie IMG_3222.jpeg
