Well, I have to break the news somehow.
I will tell you, although this is through many tears on my side.
Lhicken is not here anymore. She is gone. I am cremating her even though there is a fire ban.
I'm so very very sorry for your loss. It's very hard to lose our dear friends. :hugs :hugs

Killers at Rest

These 2 killers stopped by my daughter's deck on Saturday. She thought one of them might have a leg issue, see how it is holding its one leg out.

They were completely unafraid of her. So much so that with her standing in the deck, they lay down! Had anyone ever seen a hawk do this!

They seem like juvenile sharp shinned hawks. What do you think @ChicoryBlue ?
They are sun bathing! :)

I hate to say this, as evil as they are to our chickens....
But they are beautiful creatures.

I suspect you are right about the foot/leg. That is an odd position for the leg, and the foot usually isn't clenched tight like that at rest. While I don't want them hunting any of my birds/pets, I do feel sorry for it. If it is seriously hurt, it won't be able to capture prey effectively with one foot, and may starve to death (unless it's sibling shares catches) While I would like for them to be fewer in number, I wouldn't wish a slow starvation death on an animal.

:idunno Maybe I am just too much of a softie in general:idunno

A couple of siblings, yes. I am not skilled enough to tell if they're Sharp-shinned or Coopers at this age though! That foot would seemingly make it difficult to grab any prey, but it's made it this far. One thing about these predators is that they go after mice, lizards, grasshoppers, snakes, and probably rats too, not just other birds.

What a nut !

I turned the camera to point upward to see what I could see, and there was Rico snoozing with his head hanging out the nest box! What a nutter 😊

Would they ship to Canada? I might be flagged at the border 😢

If I were closer I could get her some from my veterinarian. Thank goodness for him, and as I have known him for over 35 yrs (and he knew me when I was still working as a Nurse), he knows that I know my stuff with the critters. I will be terribly sad when he fully retires 😢

I will be stocking up in a whole load of stuff when he does let me tell you!!!
I did not realize they were in Canada. That makes things more difficult.
