I've used both. Of course, the pencil might not show up as well, but is for sure better for the chick and egg. Sharpie will show up really well, and while it may not be the nest for the chick and egg, at least they get to smell the fresh aroma of Sharpie when they come out 🤔🙄
I'd imagine in 3 weeks the smell would disappear. Eenie might be high as a kite for a while though. 😆

I know absolutely nothing about this but would pencil be better than Sharpie? I am just thinking of the Sharpie chemicals being absorbed into the egg.
I used a Sharpie S-Gel on my eggs to put name and date laid when I put the eggs in the incubator at my friends.

I use pencil on mine. I didn't mark Tomatilla's eggs though. She has two Mary eggs, one Knokalina egg, one Samantha egg, and one of her own eggs. I didn't mark when they started incubating so I have noo idea when they are going to hatch.
