Tried to sit out here relaxing but I was mobbed by chicks!

Gives me an opportunity to see if they are girls or boys.

I am sure this little splash is a girl, and what’s with those orange brown feathers coming through? It must be a Mr P thing.

That first mug is one in a million! 😆

These are difficult times when they seem unwell but there is no definitive course of action to take. As to the heat stopping laying overall, I've not seen that but I've never had Buckeyes. But they are getting older and you will start to see laying gaps from time to time.
I meant NO definitive course of action. 🤦‍♂️

In my older & heavier breed birds, when it gets really hot, they do stop laying - but I am talking heat wave kind of hot - and not for just a day or two. The Buckeyes look to be a true dual purpose breed - so that may be part of it
(I find my heavy breeds - like Brahmas, lay well through the winter and are more sensitive to the heat in the summer and 'take heat stress breaks' from laying. Whereas my lighter breeds stop in the deep cold spells of the winter and are less likely to stop laying in the heat.
This is very helpful. Thanks.

Those school chicks are a hoot! All those fancy topknots, and one even has a beard and cheek muffs 😊 it is going to be really hard to rehome them I am getting quite attached to them - I am keeping them till they lay eggs so I can see what colours they lay.

After an epic rainfall event here today and last night (2” of rain), the wind shifted and brought back the smoke from the forest fires; very hazy and smoky. And a very chilly north wind.

I closed a window in the Hen House to lessen the smoke and both windows in the Summer House, it was chilly anyways for those chicks - they are still small and that roost is rather exposed.
