At the mobile vets - the backyard - mobile x-ray and everything's in a truck flatbed.

Peanut likely has heart failure from cancer tumors, x-rays showed ascites and tumors, she drained almost 660 ml. with two needle punctures.

I have 30 days of Meloxicam for pain (for her not me lol). Will see how quickly the ascites accumulates, whether periodic draining is right given that rate, and decide on her quality of life.

Took Butters with her for company and the vet examined her too. She's very skinny and has a lot of air in her gut. X-rays showed no tumors visible.

Vet advised getting some supplements that, given the little research there is, might help heart health. Also to put some probiotics in one of their waters.

:hugsglad you are able to get vet service. It will surely make it more comfortable for peanut.

Didn't you sell/give away a couple of the school pullets already? Or am I remembering incorrectly? Either way, that isn't even 2 hens per Roo - way to many in modern keeping conditions! Granted, they are still young...but they are definitely starting into the hormonal stage - at least the older couple are! And, yes, the teen Roos need a good wake-up call by the hens AND Mr. P. Hopefully he will rise to the occasion - then you will be able to see who learns their lesson and who continues to be an idiot. Keep the smart one that learns!!!!
Yes two pullets were sold. And I have a bunch of Roo-lets, to put in freezer camp when they get to size, which some are rapidly approaching!

I have been eyeing the young bucks to see who is behaving and who is getting too randy.

I'm so sorry that Rico is such a brat. The ratio is very good for you.

Understand that Mr. Pompeii may not be a teacher. Not all Roos are good at teaching new boys. Hopefully he will step up to protect his ladies but there is no guarantee.
Tonight I saw him discipline someone couldn’t se who it was but he caused someone to take off fast!

Works well in hot situations, read this post.
If he is, he needs fluids, electrolytes, and to cool down GRADUALLY. Getting the temp down too quickly can send him into shock just as quickly as warming frostbite too quickly.

Stand him in a dish pan with water just a few degrees cooler than the air, deep enough to cover the tops of his feet. Add 1 (ONE) ice cube. Keep the ice cube away from his feet (opposite corner). If he's willing to stay there, add another only when the one is completely gone.
. Jaffar has cooled down a bit and is acting normally. ( Normal for him anyways). Then I opened the water park for the chooks to soak their feet.

2 things to consider in this:

1) I'm sure the air temp was increasing as the day wore on - did it maybe keep it from increasing as much?

2) Laws of physics here: There is a TON ( cubic feet) of air, one fan and one frozen jug would probably not be enough to decrease the energy of all that air! (and hence the temperature)- maybe multiple fans & jugs strategically placed to create an area with a cooler 'micro climate'? Someplace the chickens can literally go to 'chill out'?
The room is small only 4x10 feet so not that big, and it is one of those large box fans.

I put two fans there for night time the one on the wall and another on the floor blowing inside the wire door from outside, so no danger of birds knocking it over.

Shan has the leg feathers.

Tuff has the cheek feathers. And the back of his comb looks like it's going to be similar to Rico's. I'm now wondering if by some fluke he is Thing and either Whiskey or Horus offspring. He has the cheeks: Pippa, Maizie, Thing (unless Whiskey or Kren popped a throwback). He doesn't have Thing's 5th toe or the crest, but could pop that part later. If he is from Thing, I'm shocked he doesn't have the toe. The only way he could have the straight crest from Pippa or Maizie is if they are single pea comb and gave him the Not pea and he got the same from his papa (long odds for that). The little cluster at the back of the comb is what makes me think Thing (v-comb) and Not Pea, not rose (aka straight) from the papa (Whiskey is that, Horus half straight, half rose, kren pea, looked like half pea, half straight).

No fresh pics as they're all mostly staying under the trees and aren't willing to come out and hold still with a pair of 3 year olds enthusiasts throwing bits of banana at them. The 3 year olds are visiting cousins (my nieces) and miffed over the lack of cooperation for petting. The adults are delighted to come forth for the treats, but evade reaching hands. No pics as my hands are covered in banana slime and I haven't gotten any from the parents (also enjoying tossing banana).
Smart chickies 😁

Mine still won’t eat banana, but I tried yogurt and the jury is still out on that one. At the price of it I am not wasting yogurt on them!
