Ok all - I am still at the barn, I am doing a final check on my niece’s hen I gave her antibiotics and an aspirin (low dose) about an hr ago - just going to make sure she is ok.

Then bed for me as my RLS meds are making me terribly dizzy….

Here is a photo of the chicks I took tonight, they have to wait till I put mama and babies to bed before they can get into the summer house - so they have taken to roosting o the stall door, only 9 of them can fit though hahaha silly birds!

I will. I suspected the cancer the vet found, it wasn't a surprise, just a sad confirmation. At least there hopefully are some palliative tools available for her remaining life. But I won't drag out trying to keep her alive for it's own sake.
It's what she deserves. You are doing right by her. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Good to know that the bigs will leave the little alone. Maybe time to let mama out with the babies?
I have been, she has been hanging out with Flufffy and Curly, the chicklets try to get into the summer house but she clobbers them ha!

I open the door for her and the kids to come on out and she does but when the whole gang comes back inside the barn, she brings the babies back inside the summer house.

I trust the grups completely, but not those randy Roos!

A wise and truly loving owner you are to say this. Too many drag out things. You are a good chicken friend.

Pastel (the actual) rooster is in trouble!

I went out this morning and brought the girls some food. I always grab Pastel and put him in a smaller coop or throw him out the door so that he doesn't bother Mom.
He is normally perfectly fine with me.

I entered the coop, and went to grab Pastel. He walked into Willow's pen, and so I went to lock him in there because no one else was in there.
As I was closing the door, he spun around and charged at me. I will say, I screamed because it shocked me.

I have VERY strong reflexes and so my leg kicked him. He got pushed away, and before he could ready himself for another attack, I was there.

I "attacked" him. I grabbed him, started whacking him (gently) and scolding him. I then pushed him into the ground, and pinned his head down. After a minute, he jumped up, but I still had him.
I thought about pinning him again, but I decided against it because his heart was beating so quickly.
He better watch it! Naughty Pastel.
I understand carrying a rooster, preferably on his back, where the other chickens can see him being submissive, can get him back in line. I don't know if it works, but worth a try.

She is seven weeks old. Today I saw her flap her wings vigorously and make an odd squeak. Twice I heard what I thought was a chick scream/squawk and thought maybe Clara scared or pecked them, but now I am wondering if this could be tiny chick crow attempts? Or maybe it is my imagination. The breeder did say that it was very rare for them to mix up cockerels.

There are also tiny spur points starting. My hens have these as well, but I haven't seen this on any of the other chicks.

What is viola’s breed supposed to be?

No worry on the spur points my pullets have them as well ❤️

I have limited experience with breeds with wattles and full combs, my grups all have small combs and no wattles - this is my first time with breeds that have wattles.

Sure is adorable though 🥰

That's the drawback of these rainbow egg layer collections, I don't know her breed. My latest thought was possibly an Olive Egger based on Cream Legbar crossed with a dark egg laying breed. They have Cuckoo Marans and Welsummers, so those are possibilities. Then again, she doesn't have a crest, so maybe not.

She is lovely and I am really invested in her survival as I put a lot of effort into getting her to eat and drink and survive as a tiny chick when she struggled out of the gate.

That is about the size of Ned's comb and wattles at 7 weeks of that helps at all.

You have done wonderful with her. How does she stand? Does she stand upright?
