(Kind of devious looking.....)
So glad that Mr P is the perfect rooster :)

And while Rico and Penne are bad at sneak attacks on the hens molesting them, they haven't caused me any issues (other than Penne thinking my foot was a good this to try and breed :gig).

I will not keep a Roo here that attacks people. It costs just as much money to feed a good Roo as a Bad Roo.

Modifications made. It's not much, but it lets the breeze get down to chicken level. Bonus, lets in a lot more light as well. It was worth a couple hours of vacation. We were actually done in an hour or less...but then we took the time to clean waterers and scoop out some litter.

It's surprisingly cool right now. 87° still and 84° in the coop. There's a great breeze! But of course it is only 10:30 a.m.

Because it was so nice I let Eenie and the triplets out, with Sheba in the coop and Manny and Meanie locked out. There was a bit of a dust-up with much flapping of wings, which of course I didn't see. But Eenie took her babies back to the nest. Left it open anyway. Sheba won't hurt them I'm sure. I know I'll have to let them mingle soon.

For now, here's the triplets learning how to chicken.

A wind storm came through and ripped up the thin, tissue paper tarp over my chicken run. It's really not something to get upset about because it was inevitable. But yesterday went through and put a new sturdier tarp over top of it and moved the shade cloth around. It's so dark now! I guess I need to start getting better about taking pics...

While I was out there, I saw my roo has a marked preference for my barred rocks and cuckoo marans. Kind of wanted to hatch out some leghorn / fayoumi mixes just to see what the outcome would be, but I haven't seen him approach them at all! I've also decided I'm going to name him Jabari. Mostly because it means brave, and I love an ironic name. He's a huge scaredy cat. My fearless one!

I still need to get some leg bands so I can start telling my leghorns and barred rocks apart enough to properly name them. I have one leghorn I've been calling Floppy because she's got a huge comb that's completely fallen over. It just flops ever so enthusiastically while she does whatever chicken stuff she wants to do.

In my barn I may soon be building a pen for geese to take shelter in at night. I barely use the barn, besides the wood shop in there, so that's like 3/4 of the space going unused. Had a scare because I saw a rat in there! I didn't think I was close enough to civilization to have rats! But a biology prof at uni told me it was a pack rat, so not a threat to my chickens. However, it is a threat to my car engine, as they like to nest in there!
