Not sure how many names I'll need, at this rate of chicks going down. We'll see in the morning.

I've put together something symptom-wise, though - both the chick that died and now this new one acting not well, they both had/have soft big crops when they started not acting well, at least the new one does now and I noticed it later on with the previous chick. The ones that are well have small pretty firm crops. Yesterday all remaining four had this small firm bump of a crop. Now one of them has this seemingly fluid-filled larger crop. So I gave it only four drops of sugar water before their bedtime today. It may not be able to move the contents on. Maybe there's a problem, a stoppage, with the gizzard.

:hugs I'm sooo sorry about the Covid. I had it in 2000 and spent 6 days in the ICU. Take a ton of rest and fluids. Get well soon!

This looks like rosemary to me. My favorite herb.

Sheba remains well...or at least okay. She still stands and walks wrong... for lack of a better word.

And her eggs are all over the place. A week's worth doesn't really look like they're all from the same hen! Is this much day to day variation normal? This is six days in a row.View attachment 3599689

 I just don't know what to do with her. :(
This is seven eggs in six days? She's really producing eggs rapidly. She is definitely doing the penguin stance.

Did you tell us that you have not been able to handle her? I second @Ponypoor 's recommendation to give her a good once-over grope, if you want to find out more about what's going on inside of her.

@ChicoryBlue : I'm so sorry you lost her, but I agree with everyone that there wasn't anything you could do - other than keeping it safe, warm, fed, & comfortable as you did. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs How is your burn doing? I imagine a burn that bad will take a while to heal, but I'm hoping you've been able to keep the wound clean and prepped enough so that as the skin grows back, it isn't hurtful to play/tight on the hand.

@RebeccaBoyd : I can not imagine enduring the heartache you have this year. I don't know what to say - so many losses in so many different forms. I guess the only thing positive I can say is - at least you have Owly and Branche. It seems Owly is quite perceptive for such a young chick - but then, sometimes I think our pets know us better than our families (or at least read us better) :hugs :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

@knoturavggrl : It sounds like you have a great treatment option, I will be keeping you in my thoughts.🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

Sorry I've been mostly a 'fly-by' this week. Came down with nasty case of covid and could barely function the first 2 days. Not out of the woods, but definitely doing much better today. This is the first day I was able to eat anything - about 2 tablespoons oatmeal, and later in the day about 1/4 of a banana definitely an improvement!
Oh gosh. How has your boss reacted to that!

I hope you get well soon with no long lasting issues. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Happy Friday!

Happen to be on here - wow @bgmathteach that sounds bad - please you take care of yourself too! :hugs :hugs
Thank you, the burn did not go through all the skin, I don't know the grades but it raised a good blister and never was an open wound. I did cover it well and use antibiotic ointment for two weeks. It's in a spot that did not interfere with playing, my right finger picking hand, except one night two days later I did feel a sore stiffness on the back of my hand, from inflammation in the palm I think. It's uncovered now and it has a thin leathery feel but it's skin.
I see this evening a second little one now wanting to sleep when the others are racing about, not a good sign. She moved out from under the plate a bit and pooped, I think I saw what she had pooped but didn't see it drop, and she stood there longer, so I checked for pasty bum, and her vent looks fine. She woke up quite a bit when I picked her up, but she wouldn't drink when I held her near the nipple waterer and put a drop from my finger on the side of her beak. She didn't like that. She went back under the plate when I set her down. Darn it!
Are their poops normal? Are you using medicated chick feed?

Is it able to eat the food? Try grinding it into smaller bits, it may just be having an issue with large bite size pieces of food, if you have a rolling pin you can crush some, or a small coffe grinder, I used a hammer, put some crumble feed in a cotton sheet to cover the feed and keep it from flying around, and hammered it good into small pieces.
