Ned and Lucky had a pretty uneventful day. They were in their safe zone until about 7PM. They ate, drank, and pooped! 🤣

I let everyone out and I opened the door to the dog crate the little were in. They both watched the big chickens hop out the door and a few minutes later Ned was out followed shortly by Lucky.

They quickly found a soft spot to dig a hole in. None of the big chickens have really paid them any attention. One time Blanche gave a peck at Ned but he moved quickly away and so did she.

Thanks. I'm so glad to see them doing good. 🥰

Of course. It's very easy. I don't know.
I found her under a bush when doing my rounds and not with the tribe. I went to encourage her to join them and she could hardly stand. I checked her over for breakages and other injuries but couldn't find any exterior signs. I assume she caught her leg in something or landed badly and strained something. She got a small dose of Metacam that night and I put her in the pet carrier in my house to give the leg some rest. She got another dose of Metacam the next morning and was confined to the pet carrier and short stints of exercise in the house. She got into the nest box the second night which she knows and feels safe in so that was easy. It's really hard when they stand at the door wanting to go and roost with the others when they come round for supper.
She was much better this morning and I was able to keep a better eye on her so I let her out.
I'll check what she's like in the morning.
Oh! Poor thing. Ok, I'm confused. I thought I saw some progress posts.... something about scaly leg mites, but there was a bump s where spurs would be. Was that a different hen and issue?

Meeting Dad

Once we arrived we started out by letting them just meet everyone through the crate. After the dogs, the next one to visit was their papa.

We then let them out to start exploring.

They met more different animals in that time than the ever did in my yard, 2 dogs and three cats. No one chased them. I have to say that CCCL's dogs are the most well behaved dogs I have been around in a long time. Of course Rich would have it no other way. Aside from trying to steal pieces of bread from the chickens, they all mixed together beautifully. Frankly i was very afraid that Ned or Lucky might run from the dogs and start a chase scene that would end badly but Ned just hustled Lucky away from them without needing to run and the dogs could have cared less.

When some of the other flock members wandered over to where Ned and Lucky were there was no chasing. That had to be confusing to them because when my big girls came towards them it was to chase them.

Everything went very well until roosting time.
Ned and Lucky are doing great this morning!!

They were unsure where to perch at dark last night...

Ned and Lucky are staying in there safe zone today. They'll be let out later today when I can supervise.

Anna has already claimed them as hers since they're Stanley's babies.
Looks like the integration is going really well so far (touch wood).

Ned on Bob's head is hysterical :lau. I'll bet Bob was tempted to stay all night to be a safe roost for Ned. 💕

Roosting Time

Of course in a new environment like they were, Ned and Lucky had no idea where to roost for the night. As it got dark, all the other chickens knew where to go leaving only Ned and Lucky out in the yard.

In Ned's life (Lucky as well), I have not handled them much. When they were very small and Sydney could not get both of them in the coop at the same time, I would pick them up and show them the ramp. I picked up and held Ned when he fell in the pool. Lastly I gathered them up for the ride to their new home.

So it surprised me greatly that when he was in distress and trying to find someplace to spend the night, Ned chose me. I'm being very literal. He chose me.

At first, he flew up onto the arm of my chair. I thought, "That's perfect. If Lucky will just jump up next to him then it will be easy to move them to the new coop".

Only problem, Ned decided he wasn't high enough. I saw him measuring and told CCCL, "He's going to fly to my head".

He roosted there a while and then CCCL gathered up Lucky and we moved them to a crate in the coop while Stanley watched on from his roost.

You look like you are modeling your new hat decoration in pic 2 Bob. I've heard of adding a feather to your cap before but never a whole chicken! :lau

That is so sweet that he felt safe with you.
