We talked to our friend Diane today. I asked her if she had a name for the rooster she painted for me. She said she thought of him as Roger. Roger the Doger. So if I didn't post him, this is Roger the Doger the Rooster, painted by Diane Heater.

Oooh I hope it can happen for you. If the air is overall better up there that would be a big improvement. It will be cooler in the summer too? How are the neighbors? Rational? Can you make a secure coop and run for the Rocks? Dog attacks seem to be such a problem everywhere! Hoping everything works out!

That's nothing for a dog, the dogs that have come by here have come from much further, though the most recent ones live about 1/4 mile, as the dog runs...

I may have to fence in the yard, to use it for free ranging. Lots of dogs in that neighborhood too.

Yes...electrify it! Inflict some pain, that's the real deterrent...I guess feel mean but I'm also practical about it - hearing about all the chicken deaths by dogs lately is just so sad, you know? Rebecca's new home for her rooster is the beginnings of new stock for 28 out of 30 chickens killed by dogs? Plus coyotes can scale fences like nothing.

Dogs are built to be long-distance runners, that's what they do. That's how they run down deer, they just keep going, trotting along, and wear down their prey. I like dogs but I know their nature.

So, I know I have posted this first pic before....but in the theme of m y post, it made sense to repost that one, too.

Each of thses photos (from a chicken calendar someone gave me) makes me thinnk of someone. I hope you all agree with me!

This one mkes me think of @BY Bob ; Handsome leghorn, plus the sentiment!

This one makes me think of @BY Bob 's Phyllis She is just so Chic - without even trying!!!

This one makes me think of @RebeccaBoyd : She loves her full-figured, fluffy girls - especially with feathered legs!!

I would have loved to say that this make me think of @Ponypoor 's Marty, but I don't think she looks quite viscious enough. Instead, It makes me think of @RebeccaBoyd 's new Poppet (sorry for the bad picture - the glossy paper was giving me such trouble taking good pics.)

This one made me think of @notabitail 's gorgeous but a bit aloof brown leghorn:

And this picture made me think of @RoyalChick - just because she loves a sparkly, iridescent chicken - the sentiment is right up her ally. Plus - this is a 'Pretty Chicken', her favorite kind (even if she isn't all black!)

Oh, and BTY, @RoyalChick - this is also a test - what type of comb does 'your chicken' have??????
