I should see if Pet Smart has any live mealworms. Bet those would go down nicely!

Supposed to turn chilly here also, but nothing too dramatic. 12F next Tuesday/ 7F over night. Nothing too cold.

That's how I started my mealworm farm. Don't get the superworms. I got a small container of regular sized worms. When they turned into beetles, I got another set of the regulars. They're in a storage tote in the house. I scoop someone from time to time. Add oatmeal and corn meal, and veggie scraps for water source and let them do their thing. The chickens will eat every phase of the worms.

I just started a mealworm farm here! My bearded dragon is old and was having problems with the superworms. And with the chickens, it just makes sense to keep a bucket of them around.

We got the cold snap here and I think it might come again tomorrow. With wind and everything.

yes, we are getting a cold snap here again on Thursday. with wind ( gust over 65 mph) and rain. lowest it will get is 22F!

today it got down to 15F!

The girls are all doing well, I just checked on them. They can be without Jaffar for the day. Because I need him for company

I am already impressed with the hospice care. Me and mom have personally felt for the last year that grandma's family doctor has pretty much washed his hands with her. Fighting for months to get what few things we needed and never ordering some things that needed done. One of the requirements of hospice was they are working with a different primary care physician and they would take over refilling prescriptions or changing medications. Grandma has been having bad nightmares for 3 months and she was blaming it on some of her medication. She also has constant nausea. The nurse called today after talking with the dr. He is switching one of her medications, it is known to cause nightmares. He is also adding pepcid because the blood thinners she is on wrecks havoc on the stomach lining. They also are now supplying the shuck pads and adult diapers and wipes that we have been having to buy out of pocket for 6 months. They also dropped off Niastatic *I think* powder and ointment for the bed sore area.

@RebeccaBoyd I am so happy gramma is getting care she needs. Those disposable chux pads are great, I use them for toddler diaper changes. Now that she's interested in potty training we've had some messy times haha...

Hubby has let me know I should look into getting a coop made and delivered. Dad could build one, but hubby can't help because his shop has him doing overtime as much as possible. Plus, if I buy a coop from someone the design will be one we know is good.
Now the big question is...do I go with an off the ground again? Or do I go for a walk in?

The winds have already picked up here. It’s 70F right now, but by morning it will be 40F. I can only hope that horses don’t colic. Lenny’s new home is getting slammed by the storm right now. The weather is on, and I saw the town name pop up for a tornado warning.

His owner texted my mom and sent her pictures of Lenny with his 9 year old owner. They looked very happy, which made me cry I’ve not been to the barn since he left. I’ll go next week. The only reason I’ve not been there is because one of my teachers didn’t put grades in until the other day, so my grade was not the best. And today I was supposed to ride, but with the storm, I just the SLIGHTEST feeling that I won’t be…

Why are your grades not good? Which subjects are you struggling with? If it’s math maybe someone here can assist you.

Ooh. When did you start giving her the calcium? To gauge how long until it becomes effective. And does she eat it out of your hand, or are you putting it down her throat?

Eggshells tend to run thin in my flock- Becky’s and Quincy’s are also mighty thin. They, too, don’t seem to enjoy bulking up on oyster shell. Dottie, however, spends quite some time at the oyster cup in the evenings and when she does grace us with an egg it has a lovely shell.

This is the calcium tablets I am giving to the ladies who need it.

I use a pill splitter to cut it in half for Larry, and then 1/4 it for Marty.

I know people say give a whole tablet but calcium over dose can cause heart issues in mammals and I bet in chickens too. FYI the small orange halves are Red’s aspirin

Princess was feeling the cold today so I locked up the run for a few hours. Then the sun came out so she could peck around the garden and sun herself in my hallway.

These rechargeable hot water bottles are amazing. I left one in the coop today and stayed warm for hours. Its wrapped in a pillowcase a zip bag on top then another pillowcase and all rolled up in a rug.
She had scrabbled eggs with oregano thyme pepper and cinnamon with crumble for her supper, so she sleep well tonight. I've added some spigs of lavender and rosemary in the coop with heaps of straw.

I felt like crawling in there myself when I'd finished, it was so cosy
