Mine still has the copper and the cement tubs! Next time I bath a chicken I'm going to use one side for bathing, the other for rinsing. Then I'll set the chicken on top of the tumbler for a blow dry.

We ripped out our cement tubs and put in a modern one. The cement ones got moved down to the bottom of the garden. There is a Camelea cutting growing happily in the left tub, the right one is currently vacant and looking for a plant tenant.

Dirty Face and Coop Lichen

You know those kids you see when you are out whose faces are just covered in food or dirt. You just want to grab a wash cloth and clean them up even though they are not your child? I was having those urges with Lilly yesterday. I have no idea what this is on her face.

It has been so wet here this year that on the southern exposure of the coop roof I have this growing!

That sounds about right, re cutting costs. I’ve put a new perch in, although it’s quite close to the floor as I screwed the original perch to the plank of wood and slotted it in. I also took @Aussie-Chookmum ’s advice and put a big bit of cardboard in over the nest.
Lozzy.. is that wide board your new perch...? It seems too wide for them to roost on.. a 2x4 would work better.. could be why they won’t roost on it.. that’s so wide it’s like setting on the floor... unless pic is deceiving

The Pattern Repeats and Costume?, What Costume?

I have noticed recently that about an hour after sunrise and their release from confinement in the coop, the flock stops to groom and digest. This seems to happen everyday. Now they are up and out before the sun actually rises but using that as a marker, it does seem that they are full and need a moment at about the hour mark. I feel like the gorge themselves first thing in the morning and they eat at a much more leisurely pace throughout the day until dusk starts to fall when the gorge themselves again. Today, Maleficent decided to take her break in my lap and Aurora took hers on the footstool. Here they are.

So as we sitting there together for over 20 minutes together I thought I would ask them what they wanted to dress up as for Halloween. Aurora immediately responded that since she was behaving like her namesake that Mal should dress up as her. Maleficent said that she could not deny it so here she is. All ready for Halloween.

I did wonder if it was a bit too wide, or whether they would just curl their claws over the edge. I did have a lump of wood that probably would have been a better width but I didn’t know if it had been treated with chrome or arsenic. The plank I chose, I knew it was wax-wood, so it would be safe. I can cut it down to make it a smaller width. It’s not that far off the floor, that’s where the notches are. I would have to put in new notches to get it higher.

I love the expression Lilly has. “Yeah, I have something on my face. What of it?!” :lau
