Bath Interrupted

Poor Glynda was just trying to keep her feathers white......

This is a great video, I found it soothing to watch and listen. First off, Aurora is just magnificent. Great to see the colors move with her, just outstanding. Nice fluffy butt, too!

I thought Glynda knew what might happen with Sidney, Lady Featherington saw it coming too, and Glynda held her ground well enough. I thought she submitted, by lowering her head and being still, but also by not leaving she claimed some dust bathing rights. Yay for Glynda!

Nice dust bath companion in Lady F, though as @RoyalChick noticed, when LF got into it too it became a tight squeeze! What a big round floof lady, Lady F is!

Phyllis also struck a pose a couple of times, nice. I wondered about Hattie, but caught a glimpse in there, she was enjoying the sun?

I loved how she had that dirt flying 😊

Okay, so this is probably a really stupid question then...but if hair (and, I presume, feathers) are mostly keratin, which is very difficult to digest, then why are ground up feathers part of some feeds? It may be 'protein', but if it is undigestible, then is it not usable protein....so why is that done????
They grind up feathers for feed ?! I have never heard that. But I suppose pin feathers should have a good blood supply in them. I am assuming you are talking about feathers that come from processed broilers?

I would bet at 10 or 12 weeks their first moult would be underway. Lots of good pin feathers available in that case. Hmmm I really must research this.

And this will make all of you cringe I am sure

I don’t generally eat processed foods, and after reading this will definitely NOT eat processed food again 🤢

Soooo

Looks like they process the feathers to make
l-cysteine - ooooo yummmy 😲

Both of my EEs had/have personality for days. I love those chickens.

I do believe the scattered nature of my flock plays a factor for sure. I do have 2 Orpingtons so there is that.
I have found that the barnyard mutts are wild things (that make my heart sing)…… they run and fly and generally cause nothing but havoc around the barn. Meanwhile my silkies and my cousins hens are all quiet and tame, don’t cause trouble and all roost together quietly - well not any more now that I have barn full of crazy mutts!

Even the Azurs are quiet and well mannered compared to the mutts! I was worried after hearing the stories on them flying everywhere, but they have nothing on Eli-too and Butterscotch!

Well, get 6, 3 of each. You could probably sell one of each at POL without a lot of difficulty. And a few of the silkies crosses, too.
Yaaaaa I could… but we alll know how that went down with the school chicks!

They breed like rabbits these chickens - I wouldn’t mind if I had lots of customers to buy eggs! I am going to make an egg sign for my place, I need to sell more eggs! There are 10 dozen sitting here right now!

If I could get them to Alex I would! 💕

My SHRA tax

Gosh I love this photo of Henny and her brood 😊
