Not everyone is a winner.

Felicitas doesn't care. She says that she'll go broody to "smack the ever-living daylights out of anyone who dares to touch any egg".

Petunia had a very difficult time laying a soft shell egg Monday night- she is a winner in my mind. I also think it was her that laid the soft egg this morning on the ledge in the Hen House.

She is also getting calcium now, along with my old girls Larry and Blanche who are 6 yrs old - I think they are still laying eggs! Every other night.

And I have been giving Marty a small dose of calcium also every other night to keep her egg shell quality up. She has been laying nice eggs lately.

Everyone else generally has rock hard eggs! They bounce when dropped on shavings bedding- brick flooring not so much

I've heard that one rooster usually can only handle around 4 or 5 hens. I think it was in the Shadrach article. Maybe start more groups of hens with a rooster.

Nope I have Mr P and now Bert, no more!
