Alas it isn’t to be…..

She belongs to the lady 3 houses up, she has 2 little boys. And 3 other chickens 💕 1 is a very naughty polish Roo, and another polish hen, and another little bantam hen.

She had them outside yesterday and she went to get lunch for her little boys and when she went back out the hen was gone! She expected the hen got caught by a fox. She was so eggcited when she learnt I had the hen I thought she might cry.

My BIL told me he thought he heard a rooster crowing on that property yesterday when he went for a walk. So I went there.

So the lady her little 5 yr old and I went back over to my place to get the hen. And no wonder that hen is so quiet, the little boy walked up and picked up the hen and carried her off hahaha so sweet 💕

I have a feeling Lakshmi might be a bit hard for a 5 & 3 yr old, but Lucky may be easy. Seems the boys have been calling her all sorts of names.

In the end I am thrilled it all turned out well.

💕
This beautiful guy walked a mile from his place across two roads, a creek and heavy woods to our house. It took him three or more days, 'cause we heard crowing for a few days getting closer and closer, and one morning here he was crowing outside our house.

A scenario suggested to me was that a coyote or some predator had chased him, or he chased it, and he went beyond where he knew where he was, so he had been calling out trying to find his way back. This was before we had chickens, I fed him some cornmeal and water, and eventually caught him with help, and we put him wrapped in a sheet in the trunk of my car. We rode around the hill asking where he belonged. When we finally got to his house we could see other chickens just like him. I opened the trunk, and he had gotten out of the sheet and just exploded to freedom. Then he calmly walked over to three hens who came over to greet him. All was good.

CB, you’re my hero! 🦸

Sir Jaffar has been granted his own wish for tonight, he’s staying outside in the coop with his ladies. He always gives me mixed signals. He will stand outside the coop and hesitate for 10 minutes. Tonight I told him that all his girls were present and accounted for inside, but if he wants to come in the house, just tell me. I will be getting him as soon as the perching drama is over. He would agree.

The rooster is the hero, surviving the journey! I've told this story before, don't want to bore you all, but I loved that rooster, and his voice! So ridiculously handsome. I wish I knew more about chickens then, I would have given him a better meal.

Well I'm glad she is back home but sad for you. You are missing out.

Oh Alex I would love to visit and see you and chooks and help you fix the fence between your place and your neighbour.

Here is what I plan on doing with my horse side fence the flying bad girls like to go over.

I will screw some 2’ lengths of 1/2” x 1” strapping upright, to the posts; next I will cut some netting I have here to 2’ widths; then I will staple the netting to the 2’ upright strapping - this will make a barrier that they can’t fly over or through. And because chickens generally like to fly up onto and then down off of fences the very thin netting will not hold their weight so they won’t want to fly up onto it.

I would think this would work for your place also likely.

The netting I have is 7’ x 50’ and was inexpensive - $30 if I remember.

I should have enough to make 2’ widths x the 50’ length to go down the one side easy.
This sounds like a good idea!
