There is a different nipple attachment for that kind of cooler that you can get- I have one. I agree, having a cooler that I can put a big chunk of ice in to keep the water cold in the heat is GREAT!

Yes, we got the other Brite Tap attachment for the Rubbermaid thermos but it was more of a little cup waterer rather than Brite Tap's older nipple waterer. We're using the newer Brite Tap cup attachment on one Rubbermaid and still use the old Brite Tap nipple waterer on a second Rubbermaid -- all our birds prefer the nipple waterers. We moved the two small Rent-a-coop single nipple chick waterers outside but the small Rent-a-coop quart tanks are not insulated like a thermos

Our summers get brutal and in past years have lost a couple hens to heatstroke. We bring the hens into the house during heatwaves now.

Polish are #1

The polish eggs are here. They are in a container point down. There are actually 7 eggs and no easily visible cracks.

The Orpington eggs are not here yet.

We are at a week of them being broody already. @RebeccaBoyd @rural mouse do I need to worry about the ladies giving up on the hatch before they are done? Will they sit for 28 days?

I have my answer for this..always have a bator ready! That's how I got started hatching. BYC ..someone..suggested that when I said I had my first broody girl. I was pretty excited. I went ahead and got a bator just in case. Sure enough, when she heard peeping under her, she flew the coop! I hurried and warmed up my bator. Oh man..I was hooked. Loved hatching! Good luck with your broody hens. That's a fun way for sure.

And we now have 3 pips. I think it is a Poppet egg. Multi-tasking here at it's finest. Sweep a minute, stare at the incubator for 5. Mop the swept spot, stare at the incubator.

I remember those days. I miss hatching.

TeeHee -- keeping our Silkies from being broody is our problem. I've got 3 out of 5 Silkies broody right now. One Silkie is a hard broody and once went over 5 weeks constantly running to an empty nest before we broke her.

Never drop your pocket change cuz Silkies go broody at the drop of a dime!

Two broody Silkies -- Suzu and Ginny and they always want the same nest!

Now we have the start of the zipping process with the Betty egg. It is 7:30 my time. I predict by 9 it will be out.

Well, Whiskers the old bat, is now coming on 5 weeks being broody.

I told her if I won the lottery I would maybe give her another chance with chicks. I think the chicks of the world are safe….
